I realize this is incredibly early, (1.5 years to be exact) but I figured that I would share my top 50 prospects for the 2020 draft as it stands so far in the season. This list will change drastically and not look nearly similar even a year from now, but it will be interesting to look back on as time passes. I didn't bother to include any goalies in the list. As you may notice, there may not be as many European prospects as there are CHL prospects, and it's just ease of access really. Expect more Euro players to be thrown into the mix in my list as the months pass and I can view a little more obscurely. As always, let me know some players you think I should have on the list or aren't as high as you think they should be and I'll watch some more for the next update.

Draft is stacked so far
Lawrence needs to be higher though, he’s like a smaller Barzal. Just needs to add some size
Also no Poirier?

Nice effort. Never easy to make a list from scratch. I've not seen any 2020 lists yet. I was going to make one after the conclusion of the WHC-17.

Two big omissions here look to be Thomas Bordeleau and Jan Mysak.

Great player, barely missed the cut. I really don’t like the whole not reporting to Peterborough saga he pulled after they took him at 3, but it is what it is.
I agree, he's also one of the most developed physically out of the 2020 class so far so it gives him more of an advantage as a 16 year old. Still has one heck of a shot though.

I am Raymond > Holtz so far

I’m almost there on top end skill, but Holtz has really shown me that not only that he has the pro body at 16(which he doesn’t use to dominate(yet)), he has the basics mastered but has a plumber’s mindset. They’ve put him up and down the lineup, had him kill penalties and run the point in a 1-3-1 PP and he’s thriving whatever the role. A 200’ mindset but top end skill. (ADDED:) at J18 he didn’t show much beyond the offensive skill set.

If Grewe & Walli-Waterholm spend more time with the men’s side after WJC, Holtz will slide in to top 6 full time and his production will take off.
But it’s thisclose
So if you’re drafting, the question is this: do I go for the player who might get me 65 pts/yr in D+3 until the aging curves kick in or a guy who gets me 60pts/yr in D+3 until the aging curves kick in(but has other aspects of his game that can have him be productive even in bottom 6 at either end of the curve.)

Why?

These kids get one chance at a career. Why go to an organization that has botched players development over the years.

Any guys project to be 1# D-men in this class? Specifically out of Barron,Drysdale and Guhle.
For guys like Guhle and Drysdale they are way too new to the junior level to project that as likely. They have the potential, but I don't know if its likely. You need kids like J-Bo, Seth Jones, Hedman or Dahlin to project it as likely at that age.

T. Bordeleau definitely should be on there

I don't think Rochette is a 1st round prospect

William Villeneuve and Jeremie Poirier both Ds from the Sea Dogs should be in the top-50, also Lukas Cormier from Charlottetown to be considered

I really like William Dufour and Charles Beaudoin from the Q as NHL prospects, keep an eye on them

Great list. Never to early. Don't know if anyone has Elliot Desnoyers on their radar yet but he's looked really good in viewings playing for the Moncton Wildcats

Jones didn’t even do that in his D-1 year(but was a great skater without a lick of meanness in his body), but Dahlin was the best player on the ice in J20 when he was 16

Rossi is totally over performing Byfield this season in the OHL. (yes Rossi is late 2001 born and Byfield is 2002 born, but still)
Marco Rossi can be higher on some scouts eyes.

Also Sudbury, still not very good team. even still...
