This might be sarcasm. There were rumors that Winnipeg was looking for a first and a good prospect. Someone blew it out of proportion and said the only prospect that fits the criteria is Hronek, and we only have one first, so it would have the be the 6th overall. No exceptions.

Couldn’t be Cholowski, couldn’t be #35. It had to 6OA and Hronek.

Or maybe, just maybe, Hayes cost a premium during the season because the market was thin at his position, he was among the best available, and prices are inflated approaching the deadline.

When a team is buying at the deadline, they are willing to pay more because they think and hope they can win. The same isn’t true during the offseason.
