Pionk has been quite good for us.

The trade still wasn’t good. Trouba played hardball and refused to go anywhere but New York, so it’s hard to fault Chevy entirely. The real crime was the Hayes trade.

Pionk has been more than serviceable and Heinola is a gem but what really made this trade bad is it just kills our defensive depth. Because Trouba is gone, trash like Kulikov, Dahlstrom, Bitetto all get tons of ice time.

There were many people who said to trade him far before they did. And overpaying him is an option. Why not offer 8.75*8? He's worth roughly that.

Cap space was limited. Jets were in cap hell after the 2018-19 season. To keep Trouba, we would have had to give up either Laine or Connor. Trouba also made it clear he did not want to play in Winnipeg. The situation with Buff was unforeseen, so Chevy did what he could.

Pionk is a mediocre defenseman. He is above average in offense, but below average defending. Heinola is still a big question mark. You are delusional, and your Jets homerism is blinding you to the reality that Trouba was a huge loss, and cannot be replaced.

The trade is what it is. Hopefully Heinola will exceed expectations, and eventually become a top pairing defenseman, but please keep it real. The trade was lopsided, and the Rangers won the trade hands-down.
You need to work on your talent evaluation. Heinola is among the best 18year old dmen with Bjornfot, Byram and a couple others. Chevy did well. Trouba is basically a wash against his cap hit.

When do you trade him and for what return? It was arguably better to keep him as an own rental. Overpaying him is not an option. First off, he wouldn’t sign it anyway. Second, the Jets needed cap space for Laine and Connor.

Hellebuyck stats 2019-20: 3-2-0, 0.919 saving percentage.

Hellebuyck career stats: 120-66-17, 0.916 saving percentage.

2018-19 league average save percentage was 0.909%
2019-20 league average save percentage = 0.905%

Yeah, Hellebuyck really "sucks." :sarcasm:

Hellebuyck is no 6 million dollar goalie.

He is Pavelec 2.0

trouba would be really welcomed back on my team. was always a fan alot of bitter jets fans being emotional but the fact is we were a better team with him and still would be now. pionk and heinola dont help us now as much as trouble would but it is what it is.

It's been 3 games for Trouba and he has 4 points.

I'm happy that Pionk hasn't been sucking anymore, he's a nice kid.

That said, this sample is a little faulty.

Trouba is not an 8 million dollar player. Any non-biased person would tell you that, "projections" are also a bad way to try and justify a contract. #1 defensemen are worth that kind of money, a #1 defenseman he is not.

He makes as much as John Carlson, who is significantly better.
Not really.

Trouba could easily produce what Carlson does playing on that team and they're both whatever defensively.

I think they're actually very similar.

LOL

Skjei-Trouba is one of the best pairs in the league. The jets are josh Morrissey and a bunch of guys from the rec-centre.

Trouba has been greate But I don't think Skjei has been playing well. Not that it matters since Hajek is Trouba's partner now and Skjei is paired with Fox.
