This argument always grinds my gears, Ryan Reaves was not traded for a first, he was packaged with a mid second for 31st overall. The difference was like 10 or 15 spots in the draft I believe
People make a big deal out of the term "1st rounder", like there isn't a difference between a guy drafted or projected to be drafted in the top 10 and a guy drafted in the late 20's.

I'll have to find it, but statistically speaking, the likelihood a player makes it to the NHL between position 20-60 isn't that far off.

Check the 2nd round numbers (which pre-expansion times encompasses picks that (26-30) would have been considered 2nd round picks at the time, now (31, 32 would also be considered) would be in the 1st round bracket).

After a player is drafted, if they got rid of the round number completely and just went by overall pick, I think people's perception of the term 1st round pick would change.
