I haven't seen people mention Jarry's stickhandling abilities recently. That'll add a nice dimension to the team.

Honestly, when comparing him and MM last year that was my biggest discrepancy between the two. It is such a big weapon to have a goalie that capable to help the defense.

Him being able to use his glove hand also helps :sarcasm:

I mean, it's fair to say out of goalies in the league, his stickhandling is elite for a netminder.

It's always been one of the things anyone mentions when talking about Jarry, it's one of the things I really liked about his game too, makes it harder to dump the puck in on him and you started to hear that last season "Their goalie, Jarry, is a pretty good puck handler, you can't just dump it in on him..."

Really pumped to see what he will do as the bonafide #1.

Lateral mobility and in tight reaction time are huge differences too. Murray was horribly slow for a starting goalie. Jarry's just stronger and faster in every way. Just a better athlete. He'll be more durable because of it too.

Regardless of what trends people expect to see from one year to the next, these differences will not change. That's why I'm optimistic about our goaltending this year. It's just an upgrade for us.

Compound all that with the fact that he's in a way better place confidence-wise. Already in camp, people are giving glowing reviews on Jarry. They are expecting big things.

One thing we will find out super fast is Sullivan and his playoff coaching mentality, if he's actually grown from the last 3yrs.

This year, it's 8x each vs everyone in the division. They're all playoff series, essentially. There's no hiding.

It happened in 2017 when Letang got injured. We went from a two player forecheck with a high pressure defensive game to being a trap team, letting the D have the puck at the blueline and collapsing to the net and we haven't gone back since. We've barely had a breakaway or oddman rush in 3 years. Not sure how many have noticed that.

Us winning in 2017 was like all the bad luck from 2010-2015 coming back around. Fleury, Murray, Sid, Geno, Guentz and Phil were all on a stupid hot streak. We were outplayed for most of the Isles series, all of the Washington series, almost lost to Ottawa that had one elite player and a submissive gameplan, then were left with Nashville that didn't have their top centre and were completely worn out. That was one of the luckiest runs in recent history.

I disagree and agree at the same time. Unless I'm not understanding your post. I do agree about the style of play but I think it is 2 fold. One is definitely because teams immediately, and I mean immediately, followed our path thus the speed gap dropped. The second is definitely system. And that part I agree.

I also agree 2017 was the luck we gave back to the hockey Gods in 2010-15. It was payback. However I disagree about the second part. We played Columbus in round 1 and whipped their ass. Not the Isles. And CBJ had 108 points that year. Jake made Bobo look like a clown. We played Washington very evenly and they were a powerhouse that year going all in.

As for Nashville, we owned them for many many many parts of those games, especially Game 5. And the Sens? Holy shit.. we owned the hell out them but they didn't care because they played that defensive model. They didn't deserve to be in that series. So i don't think you are right about us getting outplayed that playoff.

The series against Ottawa was weird.

We dominated pretty much all the way through, but were not able to score in some games. It reminded me a lot of the 2010 series against Montreal.

Thankfully, it was a VERY different outcome. Still took 2 OTs though...

It’s what I like most about Jarry. A goalie that can handle the puck and start breakouts, instead of just attempting to stop the puck behind the net, is a huge plus.

Has there been any speculation to which players are going to be on the taxi squad? Legare and Poulin make sense (especially for the latter) since they aren't AHL eligible and the Q is still in limbo.
Find the guys that are waiver exempt, that is your taxi squad.

They have a 30 pt winger in their top six and two powerplay specialists making up their third line.

Also Lindblom has 0 pts in his last six playoff games so according to @Mr Jiggyfly he shouldn’t even be in the NHL.

Not to mention that Patrick literally missed the entire last year plus he wasn't anything special in the NHL before that
