Montreal
Petry was also UFA, Ekholm has another year on a digestible deal
For sure. Whoever gets him will be giving up a 1st +++ for him. I'd love him in Montreal, but I don't know if it's worth it. Not because he isn't a great player, but because Montreal is far more than an Ekholm away from being competitive.

Posted it in the Danault thread but it deserves repeating; Sakic apparently luvs him some Danault, so what about:

Danault (signed & traded) + 1st 2021 + something middling-ish for Girard/Byram

Sakic apparently wants Danault for his defensive acumen and thinks he's the missing piece for them...

We did it with Petry and it turned out pretty good.. Ekholm is a 1st pairing dman, you can have him for more then 1 1/2 if both parties are satisfied with the partnership.

We didnt give up anything good for Petry, and Petry was 27 years old at that time

We didn't trade any prospects for Petry. It was a 2nd and a conditional 4th or 5th. I don't remember for sure, but I know it was just for picks.

It would be more expensive to get Ekholm than Petry back then. Ekholm is a better player then Petry was, what i meant was that you can trade for a soon to be UFA(1 1/2 year) and make it a long profitable deal.

After we did the Petry and Vanek deals, I thought MB would regularly trade to get a rental and then re-sign them.

I think he may still try to do that - but only if he can find one at a bargain bin price, like he did with Petry and Vanek, and I don't see Ekholm being available for such a price.

Probably impossible but if either are available Id throw everything with Danault.

Danault+Guhle+1st for Girard/Byram.

Then again, I doubt it.

Is this rumor coming from a trusted source?

Watching Sakic since is beggining as a GM. He never overbid on a player, especially a UFA. He is like Bergevin type of GM. Bargainbain. His team is on a real good window with many good contracts. Thats the time to sell some prospects for roster player and lose a bit for a chance to win a cup. I doubt he is gonna do it

Montour could be a Petry-like acquisition. 26 years old, good skater with nice offensive instincts who looks worse because he’s on an awful team.

Problem with Montour is he's also defensively suspect and our D isn't exactly a defensive monster, so he'd need to be with a good defensive guy to make up for his mistakes...Mr. Ed is already with Petry, so who would we put with Montour?...Romanov might not be ready for that kind of babysitting responsibility yet...Kulak?...then they'd have to put Romanov with Weber and apparently Ducharme doesn't want to put Top Pairing responsibility on him full time yet either...and then Braindead Ben comes back and a Montour - Chairot pairing has disaster written all over it...I do like the idea, I just don't know if it would work...

FWIW - hockey30 posting Cgy & Habs were closing on a deal involving Hanifin in exchange for Chiarot + Struble + additional unnamed element

Hockey30 is pure garbage. The guy who runs it literally makes stuff up and almost never provides sources. Caveat emptor.

The Markov situation still bothers me. I hold his agent Sergei Berezin responsible for that fiasco.
Markov's agent screwing up big time and getting decertified as an agent is what I blame for Markov not returning to Montreal.
Markov never thinking that it could happen to him. Can you image? 10 games short of his silver stick. Stubbornness and pride.

Former NHL player Sergei Berezin and wife charged in Medicaid fraud

I wonder how many other agents have messed things up for their clients? Conflict of interests etc.

The Markov situation was first and foremost created and mishandled by MB playing hardball. He was concurrently negotiating with Markov and Radulov and MB decided to turn their negotiations into a public auction complete with circus-like undertones and derogatory epithets.

Bergevin had no plan B and ended up losing Radulov for nothing and replacing Markov with Alzner — with no one having competently replaced Markov as first pairing LHD ever since.

This would never happen. I’d love for it to happen, but it’d never happen.

I would put Romanov with Weber and Chiarot (when he comes back) with Montour. 3 solid pairings with a puckmover on each. Just a thought on who to buy low.

Abso f***ing lutely that's not even a question. My offer was Suzuki, 2 1st's, Ghule. Do it.

Drouin - Eichel - Caufield
Toffoli - Kotkaniemi - Anderson
Tatar - Danault - Gallagher
Who - f***ing - Cares
Yet Eichel has some sort of weird medical problem? He's seeing some specialists last i heard. Might be damaged goods.

This would be big. But i really doubt this would/could happen. We loose Danault but don’t replace him i mean that’s crucifying yourself right there.

Id love Byram but there’s no way this could work unless they take Tatar, 1st, Phoeling

done as fast as the papers can be signed if Sakic is that desperate would be a massive steal for us.
