I'd rather get a roster player. Maybe it's just me, but I don't want picks anymore.

Obviously you take the best deal you get, though.

If that 1st is from a team not in the top 10-15, there's no way you can refuse it considering we already have Lehner and Andy. Not to mention getting a prospect on top of it.

Yeah but having 2 1st rd picks is huge for this summer when teams will need to shed some salary or package the 2 picks for some high end skill...

Having another year of solid drafting would be excellent for this team, even if we don't need the prospects.

If Bishop somehow returns a 1st + prospect, and say we draft Kerby Rychel and Fredrick Gauthier (just examples) with our two 1sts, this means we have:

Stone
Noesen
Ceci
Prince
Puempel
Gauthier
Rychel
Da Costa

and many other pretty good prospects as well in the organization. We could acquire a lot of top 6 talent at the trade deadline by moving some of these prospects. There's more than enough there to put together a package for a Louie Eriksson or other top line forward.

My last pre-trade deadline musings...

I think the most realistic thing we could do, and best for us now and moving forward would be something around Rundblad and Cammalleri. Both bring elements to our team that we are lacking or short on at the moment, and both still have more to offer after this season.

Ben Bishop + Stephane Da Costa/Mark Stone + 3rd for David Rundblad

Matthew Puempel + Peter Regin + 2nd 2014 for Mike Cammalleri

Leaving Ottawa
Ben Bishop, Stephane Da Costa or Mark Stone, Matthew Puempel, Peter Regin, 3rd 2013 and 2nd 2014

Joining Ottawa
David Rundblad and Mike Cammalleri

This shores us up on the right side of defence while also giving a solid option for providing offence from the blueline. Rundblad has been coming along decently with his defensive game and has 11 points in his last 12 games since being sent back to the A as well as 15 points in his last 16 games overall. He would also provide an option for us moving forward without Gonchar if he doesn't want to re-sign, or after his inevitable retirement. Cammalleri is that forward that would just look amazing on Spezza's wing (or anyone's really...we need that scoring touch). He also elevates his game in the playoffs and would help spark our offence down the stretch.

I know that it's probably not going to happen and probably very far from being realistic...but I think it works for both teams.

If we can get a 1st rounder this year, in this draft, I'm interested.

Other years, I might opt for the roster player. This year, with a super deep 1st round... IF a 1st rounder is in play (like McKenzie suggested it might), I'm on board with that return.

Having 2 first rounders while competing for the playoffs is enormous.

We can easily package the 2 first rounders for an impact player come trade deadline or move up 10 spots etc...

I would like Cammy, but that's overpaymemt on both those trades imo.

Deal our next three 2nd round picks for 2-3 solid roster players.

Let the young players compete for the holes around them.

Sign one good UFA.

We're a contender no problem.

Going to bed on trade deadline eve, I figure Bishop is probably 50/50 to be moved. The return that would interest me most would be Glencross (even if we had to do a slight top up). Second would be some sort of package that sees a first heading our way.

Although his name has not been dropped much, I would not be surprised to see O'Brien shipped off. Even as our scoring leader he could not consistently crack the lineup, and tonight's game did him no favours. He could draw a draft pick in a deal with a playoff team that needs depth scoring, or could find himself in a package. The market would be pretty weak due to his size and lack of strength on the puck (at times).

A darkhorse move in my view would see Stone packed together with something else to draw in the top 6 forward or #4 Defenseman that the Sens clearly need. Stone is a highly rated prospect and will have value. The Sens are opting for speed in the MacLean system, and even though Stone can put the puck in the net he will always have trouble fitting in to our lineup. Unless something changes in our management before he is ready to push for a full time spot, he is probably the second best trade chip we own (behind Bishop).

Last thought: As I was watching the game, I found myself really cursing the fact that we did not hold on to Konopka last summer. Kassian was out for a few shifts early, but when the game turned fast he was basically working the door on the bench. We were getting hosed on a lot of key faceoffs. Konopoka added toughness while at the same time being able to win key draws. Yeah he cheated, but he is still at about 60% this year. I am not thinking we are getting him back (no chance of that), I just think it was a mistake to let him walk considering how important he would be to us right about now.

I miss Winchester more than Zenon if we're talking about a faceoff specialist.

^ what he said, BDP.

We need you to come clutch tonight, Big Fella. I don't know how you get these rumours, but squeeze your source dry. Give them a tease with a lil' somethin', you know? Do what ya gotta do to get what we need.

I would rather ship this proposed first for Bish in a three way + maybe something else for an NHL talent.

Were stocked at every position. seriously...we have a top 3 prospect pool, and look at the others teams up there with us, they are not as good as us currently.

we can make a 2 prospect + pick trade for a proven scorer and still have a top 5 prospect pool.

Bishop for a first from a bubble playoff team would be an amazing return, especially if that team fails to make the playoffs.

Love it. I gave up on the PHX - OTT threads on the main board, but I would love to get Rundblad back. Could potentially play with Cowen if the EK/Methot pairing happens again. Or play with Methot if we want to pair Cowen and EK. A second offensive RHD would be great.

I don't think he's ever going to mesh with Tippet's system in Phoenix, but under P Mac's system (with a healthy team) I could see him potentially flourishing.

I never thought of them, but it makes a lot of sense that they would be a team that would offer a 1st rounder.

Weren't they rumoured to be interested in Bishop earlier in the season?
