So far this season, both Craig Anderson and Robin Lehner have looked very solid for the Sens.

With Lehner set to become an RFA this coming summer, and Anderson a UFA in the summer of 2015, the question becomes: which direction will the organization go in?

Does a decision have to be made here and now? Trade deadline? This summer?

    Here's a quick comparison:

    Craig Anderson
    [IMG]
    Age: 32
    Ht/Wt: 6'2/184
NHL Exp.: 12 years (4 as starter)
    Cap Hit: $3.187 Million
Years Left: 2 (including this season)

    Robin Lehner
    [IMG]
    Age: 22
    Ht/Wt: 6'5/225
NHL Exp.: 4 seasons (0 as a starter)
    Cap Hit: $870K
    Years Left: 1 (this season)

What do you guys think? Attached is a poll, because I'm interested in hearing what you guys think the best course of action is.

The Sens will need to look at re-signing Lehner, and he is the type of goaltending prospect that teams will definitely take a gander at as an RFA.

Should they trade him? Trade Anderson and keep Lehner as the franchise tender?

Trade Anderson, stick with the goalie of the future, Lehner.

I personally believe Anderson still has at least three more solid seasons in him.

That being said, I think Lehner has to be the goalie of the future, and his contract being signed needs to be one of the team's top priorities over the next 10 months.

    Trade both of them!

Bring up Lawson and fire SPezza. Don't even trade Spezza, just fire him.

Then beg anaheim to trade back the first round pick. Offer up Chris Phillips' first born as incentive. He's always been a team player, he'll be ok with it!

I dont get it... whats wrong with the notion of trading anderson? We have a capable goalie in lehner, unless people think he is a fluke?

Keep them both. Boston rode Rask then Thomas (to the cup) then Rask.
    Depth is good.

Plus no team will throw you a life raft when you're struggling to tread water. I question what the return would be for Anderson when teams know we're desperate.

The return would be decently high I'd think, because he has had three stellar seasons the past three years. He's established himself as Top 10, arguably Top 5 goaltender. The return theoretically for Anderson would be pretty high.

Depends on the offer for Andy. If its not a great offer, id much rather have two #1 goalies.

Wow, wtf is this. Aren't you a Leafs fan?

I'd only want to trade Anderson if we can package him as the main piece for a guy like Yakupov. And I'd think about doing this after 15-20 more games of the same results from both goalies.

Trade Anderson next summer unless a good deal is offered

Well if we did decide to trade one, it would definetly be Anderson.

After firing Laviollette, the Flyers may be still looking to shake things up. If we could somehow make a trade around Anderson for Wayne Simmonds or Jakub Voracek, I would seriously consider it.

What other teams might be in the market for a number 1 goalie?

I'd trade Andy right now if we could get comparable value in a defenceman coming back our way, but I'm not trading him because I have to... I'll run with two #1 goalies all season instead of moving one of them at a discount price because we feel as though "we have to make a move".

As a general rule, you lose the trades you are forced into making.

Contrary to popular belief on this site, I'm not. I'm just a pessimist who's trying to follow the team in his city.

Sorry if I've offended anyone with what I thought was a realistic season preview, or my GDT for the Sharks game, which both took quite a bit of time before being posted on this forum.

I can think of (most notably):
    Tampa
    Islanders
    Calgary

As teams that COULD potentially be in playoff races (I know, Calgary, but they've overachieved so far :sarcasm: ) and in need of a workhorse tender.

Other outside shots in the market for goalies would be:
Colorado (if Varlamov goes downhill and they're still making a strong case for a playoff run)
Dallas (if they're in the playoff hunt and Kari Lehtonen's not getting 'er done)
Florida (though it's a tad messy with Thomas and Markstrom already there)

You kidding? No way I trade a number 1 top 10 goalie for that.

The only reason we even considering moving Andy is cause Lehner proving he already a starter and we could get SIGNIFICANT piece back for Andy.

Also, add Philly and Edmonton to teams looking for legitimate number 1.

If I'm dealing with Edmonton I'm targeting Yakupov.

But how much more could we get with Da Costa off the table?

You do know that Colorado traded Anderson away for peanuts because both parties couldn't stand each other?

    "Probably" looking for a goalie:
    * Edmonton (probably our best target right now - out of conference, desperate to make the playoffs, Dubnyk sucks arse)
    * NY Islanders (Nabokov is a placeholder, Snow might want to pull the trigger on a more permanent solution for them in nets? Also: Andy is cost-controlled for 1.5 seasons, so it's a good fit in that sense)
    * Philadelphia (Holmgren built that team. 'Nuff said.)
    * Pittsburgh (pros: Andy's cheap contract can fit into their cap structure if we take back equivalent money, they're playing for a cup this year and Andy might be the only piece they're missing, they desperately need consistency in nets... cons: what do they do with Andy once Vokoun comes back? Will they really want 3 NHL goalies under contract? Will they be comfortable paying Fleury all those millions to be a 3rd stringer?)
    * Quebec (that team hasn't had good goaltending since... like, 1996)

"May be" looking for a goalie, depending on circumstances
    :
    * Buffalo (if they find a home for Miller)
    * Winnipeg (might be interested if they're close to a playoff spot by the deadline and decide Pavelec isn't the guy to get them there)

Teams that you think might be in the market for a goalie, but probably aren't:
    * Calgary (they seem dedicated to the rebuild, they're not bringing any players in who aren't a 5-7 year asset for them)
    * Florida (if Thomas is injured, you'd think they might be in the market for a goalie, but the Panthers are balls this year, so they'll probably just play Markstrom and hope he gets enough experience and grows his game)

    You forgot:

Craig MacTavish is GM and the fact that Anderson could actually make them a playoff team. Seriously with a good goalie that team looks so much better.

Are you kidding me? No way that happens from Philly side. Why would they want DaCosta? Maybe throw in Ceci. I'd make that trade every ****ing day though.

    Simmonds-Spezza-Voracek
    MacArthur-Turris-Ryan

    What. The. ****?
