If you had a 4th and a 5th this year in the draft and all you ended up with a Bergman four years from now you'd probably be okay with that - actually you might be pretty happy.

If you had a 2nd round pick next year you would probably be hoping to someday get a player equal to Bodker.

People overvalue draft picks. Personally, given our state as a team I would prefer the draft picks over the Hoffman return we got. But if we think about it probabilistically, a mid-to-late 2nd, a mid-to-late 4th and a mid-to-late 5th probably has a combined probability of generating a single NHL player of about 50%.

Our drafting has been generally good so I can see the desire for the picks but I do not see the value people put on draft picks as being accurate - especially when the drop off is so big after the top of the 2nd round usually.

It's not about that. It's about freeing up money for a cash strapped team, when we need to allocate funds for Ceci and Stone, and maybe even EK.

That is so f***ing bad. Especially with 2 sieves in net.

4th overall would definitely need to be moved this year if you plan on icing this team next year.

You should be very worried about our return my man.

It's going to be ugly.

Dorion's history of making significant trades:

In: Duchene, Boedker, Gaborik, Burrows, Gustavsson, Bergman, PIT 1st (22nd), CGY 2nd (Formenton)

Out: Zibanejad, Turris, Hoffman, Phaneuf, Dahlen, Bowers, Lazar, OTT 1st (probably top 5 next year), 33rd OVR

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Fair enough and that is a realistic issue as well but it is at least a much better discussion point than that the package from FL was so great.

Chicago and Ottawa talking trade and a centre might be involved according to John Jaeckel @jaeckel on twitter. Not sure how legit he is, but he has over 4000 followers. Looks like he’s a writer who covers the Hawks.

Isn't he a hockeybuzz guy?

If it's legit I would assume something around Pageau.

Boone Jenner would make sense as a target. He is an RFA, he is big, fast, gritty, has leadership qualities and can play centre and wing. Dorion would likely pay way too much though.

Also with Dorion's recent history it will probably be for Brandon Dubinsky and we will just take on another bad contract without getting rid of one.

Jenner plays for Columbus.

On the main trade board they say that Flyers are getting ready to trade Wayne Simmonds. I would have to think that Dorion would aggressively pursue him. Simmonds is fast, gritty and has leadership qualities which are all the things he claimed influenced the Boedkker acquisition. Per Michael Russo:

I see no reason to trade anything of value for him if we're trading Karlsson.

It's a bandaid that will delay the inevitable.

John Jaeckel has a hard on for starting dubious Hawks/Sens rumours. Always has. Remember Neil for Cam Barker? That was him. Remember Zack Smith for Hjalmarsson? Also him.

Yeah, I see no point in us trading for Simmonds. Makes more sense if it’s a team that has a chance to win next year that’s getting him.

Do you know those rumours were untrue? Just because those trades didn’t happen doesn’t mean they weren’t being discussed.
