I think there would be reluctance to get rid of Stone or Duchene. But at this point I don't even know if we can get any decent seasons during their primes.
We are probably losing both, one for sure. We aren't going to get any pieces even remotely close in value as our own 1st in either trade. If we were offered that pick from Colorado for either or we would take it and run.

I think it's crucial we sign Stone. It would suck to lose Duche but he would net a good return and he isn't much of a leader imo.

To Colorado:

Mark Stone
Thomas Chabot

To Ottawa:

Ottawa 1st 2019
Shane Bowers
Cale Makar

This is the only scenario I can envision Ottawa getting their first pick back.

Nashville has a projected cap space of 6.5 million next year not enough to sign Duche thats for sure

Duche signed 9x8 for Subbhan at 9 Mill
Nashville isn't going to trade a top D in the league for Duchene.

Duchene isn't going to negotiate a contract prior to UFA period.

No playoff team is going to give a good player away for Duchene when they want to go on a playoff run. The best player traded from a contender last season for a rental was Namestikov, and he's garbage.

We are going to get a rental return, that's it.

I don't think PK is a top D. Plus Nashville have more then enough D's. With Duche, Johansson and Turris they may be able to win the cup. PK fills the stadium in Ottawa

If i'm talking to Duchene's agent i'm pushing for a sign and trade for PK to make him and the Sens happy

He came 3rd for the Norris last year...

The best player traded away from a contender getting a rental last season was Namestnikov from Tampa, that's about as good as we are going to ask for in regards to NHL players

No team trading for a playoff run at the deadline is going to give up a good player, let alone a guy like Subban. It just isn't happening

You say sign and trades don't happen but turris went from ottawa to nashville with a brand new contract. I push the idea of a sign and trade with duchene's agent as much as I can because 1) he'll be happy there 2) he gets a nice contract (because subban is coming the other way). I think Duche and Subban are on the same level imo

That was done in November, and was a move between 2 contending teams in Ottawa and Nashville. Turris wanted to remain here, we assume Duchene does not. Ottawa needed certain pieces from Nashville that was contingent on getting Duchene. Without an extension, Colorado doesn't receive Girard/Kamenev/2nd which was needed for us to get Duchene. Nashville never gave up big pieces from their roster. The scenario isn't remotely similar.

This is a deadline trade, with 4 months until he hits UFA.

The last thing a contending team is going to do at the deadline is trade a Norris Trophy candidate. Makes zero sense.

We will get a package of a late, protected 1st, a middling player (Chaisson/Tierny/Boedker) a B prospect (Gus/Balcers/etc) and a mid pick

Ok, you raise some good points and you may be right but i still think Nashville benefits more in this trade as their defense would probably stay the same or get slightly worse as their offense would make a huge jump

Duchene signed and traded for Subban would be amazing. It won't happen for two reasons.

1) Duchene is very close to free agency, and other than Tavares is the most valuable center of at least the last 6 or 7 years (probably longer) to hit free agency. He has the same agent as Tavares. Tavares was offered something like 12 or 13 million by San Jose last year. Duchene likely has his eyes on hitting the open market and entertaining offers of at least 70 million dollars.

2) There's way too much smoke about Subban being a loud personality for him to be brought into this room that is supposed to be built on "a team". I'm not trying to perpetuate the idea that he's an ass or anything. I just think that we can't bring Subban into a raw team like Ottawa without it becoming the Ottawa Subban's. Which in some respect would be fun, at least more fun than what we have now, but it is very clear Pierre Dorion has read a lot of self help books about team building and has an idea (maybe right, maybe wrong) about the type of personalities he wants in the room.

I would be all for it, even if it meant flipping Subban (he has no trade protection).

I could see a universe where it happens. Nashville has a tax advantage, they are a contender, and Duchene is a country music junky....but Duchene would have to be willing to sign in Nashville for something less than what he'd get as a UFA. While the take away pay might be greater year to year, Nashville typically does not give signing bonuses, no trade clauses, or any of that funny stuff, so he'd have to be willing to give up considerable value to go there. We'd have to like the idea of adding Subban as one of the primary voices and our biggest player. The fact that I have to make so many long shot considerations just to rationalize a universe where it happens, probably means it's pretty unlikely.

We'll trade Duchene as a rental to a playoff team. If we're really lucky, there'll be a bidding war between contenders like Winnipeg and Toronto who are very deep and likely to be in cap trouble later on. This won't lead to us getting an A+ prospect, but maybe this leads to us getting a lot more quantity than we would have otherwise have received.

Once again Dorion will be trading from a position of weakness.Forced to trade a pending UFA. He'll likely just get get a late 1st rounder or 2nd round pick for Duchene.

Can anybody confirm that this is accurate from today's Question Period? Thanks.

Garrioch claims:

-Dzingel is being shopped, the Sens want a 1st.
-Teams are calling about and/or the Sens are shopping Ceci/Smith/Anderson
-A deal is close, and this losing streak might expedite a member of the core being moved

Garrioch is not reliable. I have no faith that Dorion a make good trade for the sens future. They need players not picks. Defence should be their top priority. There are no defence prospects in the system.
