Gost is one year removed from a 33 PP point season. He'd help us big time.

He'd be a nice add but he doesn't fix the problems with our powerplay. We lacked a true goal scoring threat outside of Weber. 33 points with the Flyers 2 years ago is nice, but they had PP threats. If we had a Galchenyuk type PP threat last year we'd probably have had an average powerplay and Drouin with close to 30 powerplay points.

If we can pair Mete with Weber, we can definitely pair Gost with him.

Ghost isn't simply Mete with offence. Mete is actually a solid defender. It's literally the only reason he's in the NHL. So I have a hard time accepting the premise that if Mete can play with him than Ghost definitely can.

And Gost with Petry doesn't make a whole lot of sense as they've got similar skillsets.

Not really. Petry is a well rounded 2 way defender that does everything pretty well while Ghost is an offensive 1st defender who gets lost at times in the defensive zone. He's not a PP specialist, but he's not a minute eater either. It's why playing softer minutes, getting mainly O-Zone time with Petry is a better option than Weber in my opinion.

Weber dishes off the puck to his partners and is a stay behind type of player. Adding Gost to the pairing makes it far more mobile and Weber can help to make up for some defensive lapses. Weber doesn't really move the needle possession wise but Gost does. Put them together and I think it would be a pretty good pairing.

Ghost isn't "far more mobile" than Mete. He's a waaaaaaaaay better offensive player. That's it. Play Ghost offensively, like the Flyers have for 4 years, like almost every other top 20 point getting defender in the NHL, and you have to make up for his lapses less often.

I'm not saying we shouldn't add him. He's a legit #3 defender that can give you 1/2 upside in a given year. But there is a reason 17 of the top 20 point getting defenders get mainly 0-zone time. You take advantage of their strengths. You don't put Ghost on the ice for hard defensive minutes making him take the puck 200 feet all night.

We have all the possible tools to make a trade. Young players on the roster, young prospects, solid veterans, cap space...I will be very disappointed if we don't upgrade the LD.

I think we need to go after Vegas hard the have zero cap space to sign and any UFA or RFA (Gusev / Karlsson / Subban)
Looking at the depth charts Clarkson need to go ASAP...
he a great cap dump for Mtl since it is only 1 year on the LTIR and Vegas have plenty of guy that they can use to sweeten the deal.

I wonder if you take Sekera you could get Puljuarvi for cheap

I don't think either of them are players we should be crazy for. If you want Puljujarvi for cheap, let them keep Sekera and offer our 50th pick for Puljujarvi straight up. The Oilers have already tried to move Puljujarvi at the past deadline. He is no longer worth 1st round value

Another option is offering Evans and a 3rd for Puljujarvi.

Personally, I'm only interested in Puljujarvi if we give them a top 9 forward (Byron type) and they give us their 38th OA on top of Puljujarvi. If they don't like this type of deal, I'm not so sure I'm willing to do them any favors.

Hudon had better AHL stats than Puljujarvi. Think about that

Clarkson can be placed on LTIR before the season starts but this space affects the ELC performance bonus room I believe. As far as I can tell, this is $0 at the moment so there are no issues with them keeping Clarkson.

Mike Hoffman for Lehkonen.

We get the right to talk to his agent about a contract extension first.

Don’t they have to be cap compliant to start the season? They still have RFA Karlsson, Gusev, Nosek and Subban to resign...even I they only sign Karlsson and Gusev and sign them all after the start of the season they still only have less than 5.25M$ to sign both of them...

Clarkson ain't going to be enough for them, if they want to Karlsson and fill their team, they need shed a lot more salary than that.
But you are right...they are on of the teams that we can take advantage of..

Without taking on Karlsson, wonder what the price is on Alex Tuch.
Wonder also what the prices are on Kapanen and Johnsson in Tonroto too.

He's in the NHL because of the Habs' lack of depth on the left side. They needed a warm body who could skate well enough to complement Weber. Alzner was too slow and had to go.

An indication that they jumped the gun on promoting Mete was when Bergevin referred to him as "almost NHL ready" when he was already playing in the NHL. lol

I think he helps the PP a lot. Does he make us the best in the league? No. But it's a hell of a lot better than having Mete back there.

I don't think Mete's the defender you do. He (along with everyone else) was drowning without Weber. He's not a top pairing blueliner and Gost is. It's a much better fit and we get to move Mete down the lineup (as we should.)
Not really. Petry is a well rounded 2 way defender that does everything pretty well while Ghost is an offensive 1st defender who gets lost at times in the defensive zone. Petry makes some pretty terrible gaffes himself. He belongs on the 2nd pair and when he's moved up he gets exposed badly.

I'm a Petry fan btw. I think he's great on the 2nd pairing and on a solid contract. Love the guy. But he's belongs on the 2nd pair and I'd put him with Mete.

I think if you put him with Weber it mitigates the weaknesses of both players and generates more offense. Both are top pairing guys and they'd be great together in my opinion.

Meh, CJ can play around with his usage. Maybe he's used more on the PP than the PK. I agree he's got some shortcomings but I don't think he's a trainwreck either.

Anyways, I think we both agree that he'd help us big time.

I agree but if they can't move them….they still have to make some moves. They are not in a position to wait too long for the best opportunity.
