Grade the trade

Derek Roy for Kevin Cannauton + Vancouver 2nd rd pick

This is about the sort of return I was expecting, a middling prospect and a pick for a UFA rental. I know there was alot of initial disappointment around Connauton, but I think he might be better than he has been made out to be. I give this trade a solid B as I feel it addressed a need and was fair value.

Pretty much spot on value. Nothing spectacular.

Just fine. Roy's value as a trade piece was pretty limited.

Late 2nd and a somewhat above average prospect prospect.
Wasn't really expecting a first, but figured if the pick were anything later, they'd get a more highly regarded prospect.

No problems at all with the deal.

Injury-prone pending UFA lands us a project d-man with some solid upside, and another 2nd.

Looking forward to Connauton's run with Texas this year.

B+. Would be an A if we landed a conditional 2nd with the chance of it being a first.

C+ Roy wasn't re-signing here so getting some valuable pieces is good. Would have rather had a 1st but 2nd and a prospect who might actually be useful can work I suppose
