I wonder if Edmonton would be interested in a Boldy-Holloway swap. Each team gets their desired position. Both really good players.

It's funny, because i thought that EDM should've picked Zegras or Boldy over Broberg in 2019, and subsequent events have only strengthened my opinion. As to your proposal...not bad! Very different sort of players, but both are good two way players, have good size, and are skilled. I'm not sure that Center is Holloway's best position, though. I see him as a winger, but beggars(us) can't be choosers.

Holloway is an Alberta boy, though, and would be less of a problem to re-sign in the future than Boldy, so i can see the Oilers holding onto him for that reason alone.

What does this even mean?

Why wouldn't Edmonton just play Holloway on the wing?
That's true. I'm hoping they prefer the winger given the centers they have. However, I could see Holloway working really well with McDavid.
I’ve seen too much of Boldy that looks like he will make a great NHL’r
How much have you seen of Holloway? Highest ppg in the NCAA amongst those with at least 10GP. Something like 60% on the draw. Really fast and extremely skilled. Aside from the power play, he doesn't play with Cole Caufield either. He's got a legit argument for best player in D1 hockey.

Edmonton needs long term solid dmen and wingers to play with McDrai. Broberg makes sense as a top 4 replacement for Nurse. I'm pretty sure there was some uncertainty of his future at the time and Edmonton has been searching for quality top 4 dmen for awhile now. I think they got an absolute steal with Holloway at 15 the following year.

I wouldn't trade Boldy for Holloway regardless of positional need.

I have really like Holloway’s play this year, he’s much better than I gave him credit for and he looked excellent at the WJC, but I’ll keep Boldy. I’m too emotionally attached.

Anybody know what affect there is on cap recapture with retained salary transactions? Does it do anything to lessen the impact?

Just doing some napkin math, it actually slows down the amortization of it.

Normal Cap Advantage:

2020-21$20,153,851
2021-22$18,615,390
2022-23$13,076,929
2023-24$6,538,468
2024-25$0
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
50% Retained this offseason (Simplicity sakes, I'm not doing in season and calculating down to the days)

2020-21 $ 20,153,851
2021-22 $ 19,384,620
2022-23 $ 16,615,390
2023-24 $ 13,346,159
2024-25 $ 10,076,929
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

25% Retained this offseason:

2020-21 $ 20,153,851
2021-22 $ 19,769,236
2022-23 $ 18,384,620
2023-24 $ 16,750,005
2024-25 $ 15,115,390.00
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

*Cap advantage reflects number at the end of stated season

**possibility information is hella wrong

Canada had a ton of Centers playing wing, like Mercer, Zary, Holloway, etc..

I think I'd rather have Boldy because I think he is a smarter, more strategic player, and I think we need that. Holloway is definitely faster, and maybe more athletic. Sort of like a bigger, stronger Zucker. Coin flip.

Someone on GPL brought up a rumor he claims came from TSN
Parise and a #1 for Johansen. Interesting

I would hate to add a 1st for a player currently as not good as Johansen, but I'm 100% he's better than Parise without having watched him this season, he's a center, and he's 28. The contracts are a wash. Still, it shouldn't cost a 1st.
