We dont know that...maybe he offered and nobody wanted them
I really doubt that. For a variety of reasons. Objectively speaking, any of the Flames top prospects by themselves would have trumped what the Sabres got back for Kane. But even if you think none of them are worth that much, the 2019 first without any conditions by itself is better. Then some combination of any of the above, etc.; it's pretty clear Treliving had the assets to get a deal done if he thought it absolutely necessary. So it's obvious he didn't because we know he was trying.

And the only valid complaint here is why did the Treliving go all in on another defenceman, albeit a solid one in Hamonic when it's arguable the bigger need was upfront. If Gulutzan wasn't so obsessed with handedness, maybe they could have moved Brodie over to the right side and then brought in another LHD defenceman for considerably less than what they have up for Hamonic. That way they'd have their first, this year or next, maybe another second rounder to play with.

Honestly, Brodie not playing on the right might be GGs biggest mistake.

What do you suggest we do? Trade Andersson, a first and something else for Nash?

Yea, no thanks. Our window may be open, but that doesn’t mean we need to throw all our eggs in 1 basket to **** us in the future.

Who would you suggest we look at trading one of our overrated D prospects for then? If they’re overrated we’d likely have to trade a few of them for a decent winger (or a further combination of picks+roster players).

I’d imagine Tre likely looked at upgrading at wing and thought the price was too steep. I’d rather a GM do that, that trade away all our young prospects to appease people who don’t think about the long term of the club.

The short sightedness of this board amazes me. Our key pieces are 20-27 for the most part locked into long term deals, let’s not blow our assets prematurely when we have time.

I'm disappointed I could like each of these posts only once.

Trades like the Nash trade are ones Flames should hopefully be doing in 2-3 years.

Honestly, I really don't like the 'put us over-the-top' trades because they rarely work out.
In all honesty, I like the depth moves to bolster the core. Those 3rd line defensive specialist player adds, or bottom pairing additions.

If teams look to add in a top 6 player to make a splash or top 4D (to play in those roles) there's normally something missing from the team.

I was more refering to the time, not the exact type of trade.

Still shocked at how bad Yzerman just robbed Gordon and the Rangers.

Namestikov is solid but a clear downgrade from Miller.

Howden loooks like he’ll be a solid top 9 guy, but I don’t see star there at all.

Hajek I haven’t seen so who knows.

And then two late firsts...

Like, Sakic got more for Duchene arguably.

Yeah, I don't understand it either. JT Miller is still under control, too. Why can't they rebuild around him?

Heard Calgary resisted offers for three young defencemen — Rasmus Andersson, Adam Fox and Juuso Valimaki. Maybe they would have considered one for a difference-maker with term, but there was nothing appealing enough.

Can't say I blame him, these guys are going to be worth more very soon if the keep performing. And without Smith, we are not a rental away from competing.

I think they’re going for a quick retool honestly. Stockpiling Russians to be able to get Kovalchuk and friends to come over and they’re just going to resign Nash and Grabner in the summer. D Core will still be lacking but who knows
