The most important question is does this trade qualify as a deadline deal for the contest? If so I'll put 5 points in the bank - looking for that 3rd title ;)

So this is a good trade if we win the cup and a bad one otherwise right?

I honestly really like this trade, it gives us the ability to rotate our LD and RD during the gauntlet we are going to go through the next couple of months. If Cassidy can rotate the D and we enter the playoffs healthy and rested we are in a really good position. I'll be sad if the Gryz gets demoted but if everyone can get a couple of games from the press box this team will be better off.

I agree - I wouldn't hate seeing a Holden/Killer 3rd pair here for a few games. Gryz has been good on the whole, but he's had some rough patches, and as much as I love Quaider, to me he's the last option on the roster.

Yes.. Similar to the Kaberle trade when we won the cup. We lost the trade but he helped us win the cup so I would make the trade again.

Totally fair assessment of the situation here. I think He'll play in the NHL as a 3rd pairing guy , just way to many better guys in the Bruins system right now.

From our POV, it's about market value and the right deal. The only thing that sucks for NYR is your 3rd rounder will most likely be in the mid 80's to low 90's range. I was hoping his versatility in playing both sides and the minutes he's eaten this year would have made a team pony up a pick in the 60's or 70's though I don't know what teams have those off the top of my head. I always thought a late 2nd was ambitious for Holden and the market appears to be a bit soft as the article alludes to.

Agreed. I think you guys will like O’Gara though, I think he put a lot of pressure on himself in those few games he played for the big club (and honestly who could blame him?)

When he was originally drafted there was a much clearer path to the NHL than there is now on the Bruins. He just got pushed down the depth chart. I’m sure the Rangers will give him a good look and that might be all he needs to boost his confidence

    Pretty much where I am.
Better than Postma, can rotate in during this tough stretch of games to help keep the swelling down. Not expecting the moon, nor did we pay for the moon.
Still need a legit weapon on 2 and pp2.

We lost Kaberle and Peverley trades. But won the Cup. But this is different. We are fixing something that isn't broken. Thats just taking a long term loss for a short term gain.

We just allowed the Rangers to have a Bruins style rebuild on the fly. If they got this return for scrub ass Holden imagine what they get for Nash and Grabner?

And WHY **** with Grizz? I mean he could go either way. He could regress in terms of defense and all around play....or he could improve in those areas AND find his offense dude 'COULD' become a top 10 offense NHL D man like Krug just because he hasn't been that in his first 30 games doesn't mean he can't turn into that 2-3 years down the road.

Just a ****ing gross ass deal. Donny has done some great things but the NHL trades suck hard. Jones trade when we pulled a big no no on LA is the only one that isn't terrible.

I respect your point of view but I think your both wrong here. I have already said what I have to say about the trade but I think Holden is going to play a bigger role in our playoff run than most expect. You can get back to me if I'm wrong but I bet it'll be me getting back to you.:D

    just breathe, dude.

    1. they are probably not done trading
    2. they need defensive depth (as seen last year)
    3. they gave up a prospect who was probably never going to be a full-time Bruin and a decent pick. not a king's ransom
    4. Cassidy will play the best players...we've seen it since he took over. If Gryz deserves to play he will play.
    5. who gives a **** what the Rangers do next?
    6. We don't win the cup without that Peverley trade. That's not what losing a trade looks like. Kaberle under-delivered but still gave us 11 assists without which we probably also don't win the cup & remind me again what happened to the assets we gave up for him?

So are you still going to consider this a loss if we win the cup?

A third and someone that could become a bottom pairing D is not rebuilding them on the fly. Holden was playing on their top pair for most of the year, and can play both sides, for 2 months I don't see an issue with this. I do agree if the result in if Gryz gets sent down I will not be happy as he has earned his spot in the lineup, but simply as depth I think he could keep us from tiring our guys out, which IMO leads to injuries.

On that note I'm more concerned about our center depth than anything.

Damn it. I had the 3rd for 3 and O'Gara for 1. I was going to give myself props, until I saw @agreen36 got 7 points out of the trade.

Why this isn't video games. Most of our forwards have extensive center experience like Acciari/Schaller/Heinen/Backes/Spooner. They just aren't playing there when Nash is as good as Bergy at the dot.

Bergy/Krejci/Nash. And like 6 other guys who have been good centers at some point. Whats the problem?

    Brendan Smith for a 2nd and a 3rd
washed up Oduya for a 4th and Mark McNeil
washed up Streit for a 4th
    Mike Stone for a 3rd and a 5th
    Gelinas for a 3rd
Russel for a 2nd, Jokipaka, Pollack
    Shultz for a 3rd
    Mike Weber for a 3rd
Polak and Spaling for 2 2nds

I don't get why people are getting upset about the cost when that's pretty clearly the going price for any capable depth dman. Those are most of the deals for depth dmen from the 16 and 17 trade deadline.

No. But I am gonna kind of blame our front office when Gorton pulls of sickening deals for Nash and Grabner and keeps McDonaugh but gets 3-4 extra picks in the top 90 because we fixed a problem that never existed.

Your ignoring what has got us to this point.

We have this excellent record because of our depth and the competition up and down the roster. Adding 15th forwards and 9th D men for legit assets is moronic. Depth has got us to where we were. There is no reason to contribute to deadline day idiocy this year.

Some years you gotta do it. THis isn't one.

I think some people trashing this deal would be the first to point out Sweeney's inability to make a trade if he stood pat and one of the starting 6 got hurt. They would say " What a ****ing Idiot, didn't he see what happened last year!???!!" and they would be right.

    Your worried about center depth?

    So,
    Bergy
    Krecji
    Nash
    Kuraly
    If that doesn't do
    Backes
    Spooner
    Hienen
    All originally Center's

That's the last thing I worry about.
