How many of these players on an expiring deal like Iginla, Nash, Shattenkirk, etc, were the difference between winning the Cup and doing exactly what the team would have done anyway?

Toronto's 1st rounder will basically be a 2nd rounder next summer, and everyone knows it. Not going to be worth that much on it's own.

So where exactly is this cut off from a first round pick and a firstsecond round pick and a second round pick? Oh and why? Does this theory apply to future draft rounds ? Is a 4th actually a 5th ?

When top teams pick in the last 5 spots, a 1st round has basically the same value as a 2nd rounder. Not much difference between the 27th overall pick and the 47th.

After the 2nd round, it's all a crap shoot anyway, so who cares?

So why do teams trade 2 - 2nds or a 2nd and 3rd to move up to this late 1st zone you claim is really a 2nd?

Because there's a player sitting there they want, that they couldn't otherwise get with their lower picks?

I never said a late 1st had ZERO value. I just said it's nothing special.....it's basically a 2nd.

A lot of teams also trade down from their late 1st spot, to acquire additional 2nds & 3rds. Crazy, eh?

Wayyyy early for this. Who knows who’s going to moving rentals or if Toronto will be in position to go all in.

Ok , last one, you have high hopes for next season . If you guys make the conf finals even if you don't get past that to the cup finals your pick would be in the zone you describe. After years of failure that would be a great year for your team. Good luck . Finally the pucks drop for real this week. If the team starts slow, say 10-10-5 do you start to panick ? Is a guy like Nylander traded for D ? We all know you will score but can you stop the puck is the big Q. Would be a great kick in his nuts if after all this he gets traded by Thanksgiving
Cheers.

I think all you asked is "do you start to panick ? Is a guy like Nylander traded for D ?"

The answer is no.

We stay the course.

Nylander is just too valuable. And besides, we have LOTS of super talented D about to arrive via our farm system anyway.

#4 RHD ok

20g winger? we have three of those already to go along with three 30g C.
plus ennis has hit 20 multiple times and brown did it as a rookie. absolutely no need to give up assets for anything other than a dman

Why would a Team trade for a Playoff rental in October?
