I have to agree. Other than Semien, he’s been the nicest surprise this year.
Semien isn't a big surprise to me, other than a slow start last year that was exaggerated by a 60-game season this is the level he's been at since the start of 2019

Vladdy is the best story of the season, but I think Semien was thought of in that tier below the elite SS/2B. This season he has validated and showed he’s right there.

Oh I agree many thought that about Semien, I think too many looked at 2020 like a full season and were asking which was the real him, 2019, or 2020... but I just happened to see a tweet around the time of the signing that showed after he got healthy his 2020 numbers were closer to his 2019 pace than other years; so I believed we were getting closer to the 2019 version of Semien, especially since Buffalo and Toronto are way more hitter friendly than Oakland. So his current pace isn't dramatically higher than my projections which were .265-.270, w/30-35 HR and 90-100 RBI.

It's unfortunate that I think this will be his only season as a Jay, I just don't see us being willing to give him a long term deal when middle infield is the strongest part of our system with the next wave of players in Austin Martin, Orelvis Martinez, Jordan Groshans, Samad Taylor and Otto Lopez being maybe 2-3 years away.

Oakland and Tampa both lost today. M's Are trailing 5-1 in the 5th and the Yanks are leading the Red Sox 3-1 in the 7th in a rain delayed affair

Orelvis Martinez is having a amazing July for Dunedin.
.415, with 9 HR and 21 RBI in 14 games. Including 3 HR last night

Roster moves for today.
  • Nick Allgeyer has been DFA'd
  • Jonathan Davis has been sent to AAA, but designated 27th-man for today, so he will be on the roster for today's double header
  • Breyvic Valera (IF/OF) has been added to the 40-man roster and brought up to the big club.
Valera is an hitting .313 for Buffalo this year, he also has some MLB experience (54 games) w/ the Jays, Cards, O's, Dodgers and Yanks

Rangers w/ a leadoff triple in the 2nd, but Ryu and the Jays shut shit down and get out of it without giving up a run

in the bottom of the 3rd, Semien had an RBI groundout and Bichette an RBI single to give us a 2-0 lead

After today's games, the Jays are 6 back of Boston in the AL East and 2.5 back of Oakland for the final WC position. I think it's time we start watching the standings and out of town scoreboard more with the trade deadline less than 2 weeks away. I won't update the standings daily, but maybe weekly for now.

I like the team a lot better when Ryu is playing like an ace. Love having two guys that can give you some great length between he and Ray in the second half.

Sweeping inferior opposition is going to need to become a normal occurrence of the second half.

Hopefully we can get a series win against the foot lacerations.

After sweeping an interior team, I want to sweep an exterior one now
