I agree, I don't think he'd waive. For this I assumed he'd waive just to humor the idea of him and WPG and why it wouldn't work still.
Fair enough. I'll admit I didn't think of the NTC. However, I think if a team wants to move you and another team wants you, you would waive to go to the team that wants you. You're probably right that Krug may not resign with Winnepeg, but I think the Bruins need to move him and need to move him for an asset that can help the Bruins now.

Here's the problem with that thinking. Marchand signed that deal when the cap was around $73 million and Marchand hadn't exploded in production yet. Now I'm not saying he should make more than Marchand, but the market is very different than it was back when Marchy signed.

Well, Marchand wasn’t the 85-100pts guy of the past 3y when he signed that deal but was still coming off a 37g-61pts season. He had 4 other 20+ goals season. Coyle has 1 season of 20+ (21) and 1 season of 50pts (56).

My point was that there is no chance Coyle will sign for 6,25M per year in Boston. He might get that or even more on the market but not on this team.

He wants to keep playing for his hometown team, he’ll have to take under UFA market value. Just like Krug.

Teams interested in trading for Krug would be contenders (not non-contender wants a UFA rental) and those team that would want him are looking to trade futures. Futures don't help Boston win now.

Oh I'm not saying he/they wouldn't, but at some point we can't use the Marchand/Bergeron contracts as bars. I mean 4 years from now are we still going to be saying that no one can make more than Marchand?

This place has pretty much wiffed on every contract Sweeney negotiates with his own players

I’m in that boat

I was way over on Marchand, Pastrnak, McAvoy, Carlo, Grzelcyk

Missed pretty good on all

If they sign Coyle and Krug, Sweeney will likely have made excellent deals

They will be signing Coyle:naughty:

I hope they will. Big strong C that gave the Bruins a much needed productive 3rd line. They never reach SCF without his acquisition.

But since it’s a Krug thread, I’ll say this: Krug is elite and I hope they also keep him.

Like I said earlier, Krug, just like Coyle, will have to accept under UFA market value to sign here.

Krug 40M/6y
Coyle 25M/5y

Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug’s value continues to climb

Torey Krug fell one game short of his ultimate goal, and the gut punch that was that Game 7 Stanley Cup Final loss to St. Louis Blues was as devastating as it was for any of his Bruin teammates, perhaps even more so given Krug’s tenure in Boston.

But perhaps more than anyone in the B’s dressing room, the two months of hockey preceding that brutal defeat provided a silver lining for Krug. It was during the B’s run to the Final that Krug was able to change a deep-seated perception of him as just another undersized power-play specialist with defensive zone liabilities to being a legitimate top-four defenseman who could handle the toughest of defensive assignments.

And that run could also help to make Krug rich beyond his wildest dreams.

“I went to the (National Hockey League) media tour (in early September) and speaking with a lot of the guys there, it was eye-opening to hear the perception of me as a player outside of Boston,” said Krug with a smile. “Because I’ve had that narrative in Boston from Day One, just because I showed up and I was smaller, people just assumed I couldn’t play defense. Hopefully I can overcome that narrative, but it’s really tough to do in this market. It’ll probably be with me forever. If we had won Game 7 and won the Stanley Cup, then I would probably still have that narrative attached to me. I think it’s tough for me to detach from it in this market. But around the league, that perception’s changed.”

“I think he just put more of an emphasis on the parts of the defending that aren’t glamorous — working to get inside position, boxing out, accepting the challenge whether it was (Mitch) Marner or (Josh) Anderson or Justin Williams,” said Cassidy. “It was good players that he had to keep off the score sheet every night. I think there’s a tendency for offensive guys to say, ‘You know what, I’ll trade chances with this guy.’ In the playoffs, I think he tried to give as much offense as he could but not sacrifice any defense.”

“To be honest, I broke the puck out better than I ever have before. Now I don’t have to play in my own zone and the forwards are excited because they have the puck cleaner. When everyone’s happy, they all pull for each other,” said Krug.

Krug reiterated his own willingness to meet the B’s halfway.

“If you would have told me seven years ago that I’d be in this position that I am today, I’d probably look at you cross-eyed. That being said, I’ve had to fight for every inch that I’ve ever gotten in this league. Every penny I’ve gotten in this league, I’ve fought for,” said Krug. “You’ve got to find the fine line. That falls on the individual, that falls on the team to keep a player on to be somewhat fair. I also understand the culture here and that it’s probably the best chance to win a championship, year after year. It’s all a game. You try to feel it out. You try to make the best decision possible. It’s not just about me any more. It’s about my wife (Melanie) and my daughter (Saylor) and what our futures look like.”

"It’s exciting. Now that we’re in the regular season I don’t want to talk too much about it just out of respect for my teammates and the process," said Krug. "But it’s obviously exciting when you’re talking about where you could be for the future while taking care of the present obviously. That’s the most important thing. But it’s an exciting time and hopefully things work out."

I love near the end where Haggs sticks in that little bit about Sweeney dropping his name in the presser

Frank Sevali (sp) on TSN has a list of 31 predictions. He has Avs winning the Cup.

He predicts Bruins will go for it this season. He says we will not sign Krug before end of season and also will not extend Krug before UFA deadline. He also goes on to predict that B’s will lose Krug to UFA and get nothing in return beyond having him for this post season.

My prediction? Sevali is wrong. No chance Sweeney allows Krug to go to UFA and lose him for nothing. I don’t know what scenario plays out but I say TK stays or we get something for him.

I follow Frank

He had a tough 2018-19 predicting

He predicted Edmonton to win the Cup in 2018 - instead Chiarelli got fired

At this point good because it’s too late really to trade him( a deadline deal involving him and another in contention team would be highly unlikely) and the worst case scenario between signing him, trading him and letting him walk, would be to let him walk.

There are precedents with Soderberg and Eriksson.

They'll obviously get a deal done, I'm not even worried about it. Krug clearly wants to be here and I know the team realizes Krug's importance.

If Krug does resign, the Seattle draft means the B's are going to lose one of : Carlo, Grizz, Clifton. Which of those three should they retain with McAvoy and Krug?

Sounds like he will sign

Bruins know they have to be at $6 something minimum

Bruins know they have to be at atleast 5 years and realize Krug will want 7 so 6 is logical

Bruins know if they are getting a home town discount because he wants to remain a Bruins NMC has to be all the way thru

Carlo easy

Add Lauzon as well as of interest to pool

They will likely make a deal to add some other pieces to retain my guess Grzelcyk

Krug Carlo McAvoy

Lose one of Gryz, Clifton, Moore.

Vaak takes a step forward and takes Gryz role. Easy, no deals with Seattle. Vegas built their team off their deals teams made to protect others, suck it up and lose 1 good young D and move on.

Carlo obviously, but I would hope that there is a team out there that would have a slot for Gryz. Would hate to lose him for nothing, too.
