Crazier things have happened, but unless they really think Liljegren can't handle the NHL and want to play both Rielly and Dermott on their off-side then something will have to give. I can't imagine Lehtonen would sign to play in the AHL.

This guy was the best defenseman outside of the NHL last season. Why in the world would it be a Marlies move?

This is a signing I like. Lehtonen has nothing to prove here in Europe and I think he'll be in the NHL right away. At this point Marincin is the odd man out and that leaves Rosen and Liljegren to fight for being the 8th d-man.

I can't back this up in any way, but I feel like the way Dubas treated Mikheyev after his wrist injury made other KHL players consider the Leafs more.
