Kämpf is in most cases derived from the medieval profession of a dueler. Could be synonymous to the Swedish name Kempe (Adrian & Mario in the NHL).

Kampf in German means "struggle". I'm hoping that this is not a bad omen. LOL
Struggle for the opposing team, lol.

This reminds me of a goalie for NewCastle in the EPL with last name Given. I think that’s gotta be the worst last name for any goalies in any sports.

The AAV is a bit too high. Particularly for the Leafs, who need to save every dollar they can.

I expect Keefe will start with Engvall - Kampf - Mikheyev as a shutdown line. He's seemed pretty adamant at wanting a line like that.

But Jack Han had a very interesting article on Kampf. He thinks there could be a lot more there. Although he doesn't have much personal offensive talent, Kampf is very effective at reading plays, creating a change of possession, and using his body to make little bump passes that initiate the rush. Nick Bonino on the HBK line was his comparable. Very interesting.

With that in mind, a line like Kerfoot - Kampf - Spezza could be something. Kampf does the dirty work and helps the other two breakout for rush chances.

Take a read: Is Kämpf the Next Danault?

It will be nice if the Leafs aren't trying to figure out how to defend against top lines.

Played 56 games for the Hawks this year.

Only 3 Hawks forwards played 56, Kane, Kubalik and Kampf. Oh k...

Played the most SH TOI/g for forwards.

He might be the solution to the "Leafs have the lead with less than 2 minutes to go who can they trust out there besides empty-net specialist Hyman?"

He looks like a legitimate full time NHL player who knows how to do his job.

I dont know how closely you guys watched the Blackhawks between 2013-2016.

We had this guy, named Marcus Kruger. Kind of a smaller player. Not the prototypical #gritty bottom 6 guy at all.

And all he did was start basically every shift in the dzone, against top 6 competition, and every shift would end with little Kruger and his rotating cast of linemates putting that top 6 competition into a blender in the ozone. They didnt score alot, but they basically erased a top 6 line every game, which left the Kane line and the 3rd line to feast on weaker competition.

Kampf has been Kruger 2.0. Probably not quite as good at the job, but still excellent. He will face down top competition and leave the other team thinking ‘seriously?! Our best players just got shutdown by those guys’ every game. He will never get the credit he deserves, just like Kruger never did. But he will make you better, and every top line player that gets an easier job in terms of competition and zone deployment will adore him.

It's been a while since we've had a pure shutdown centre. It will be interesting to see how Keefe deploys him, and if that will benefit our top players in terms of their usage and their matchups.

People dismissing this signing are clueless.

So, the fun word the cap brought in is "parity".

Players like Kampf take advantage of parity. A 3-5 mil depth player is wiped out when you have a < 2 mil stone hand defensive specialist like Kampf in the roster. That expensive depth player does not have the tools to walk over Kampf.

5 first round losses and we don't need Kampf, haha.

I've read a lot about his usage last year, but does anyone know about the season prior when Toews played? Just wondering the impact that has on usage and success

I did a brief search of "David Kampf Scouting" and there were a number of interesting articles that popped up from the previous few years.
