Not sure why everyone is losing their mind over Spezza saying he would retire. Jeff Carter did this last year when the Kings were looking to move him. Didn't see everyone all up in arms over that.

Not only that but you’d probably put Spezza on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract since he isn’t going to report and then the Leafs just reclaim him.
