Calgary Acquires:

William Nylander

Toronto Acquires:

Noah Hanifan

In Calgarys favor, this trade makes sense because Calgary has a projected $16 Million Dollars in cap space and can easily afford Nylanders $6M/6YR Contract and they also need depth on their Bottom 3 LW and Nylander is the perfect guy for the job. This is basically a bullet in the trigger for Calgary.

In Torontos favor, they have been struggling on their Dcore for years and are in talks of trading William Nylander since he doesn't play that much Defense. The Flames put Noah Hanifan on the trade block and the Leafs are just able to afford his $4.9 Million Dollar contract. Hes an amazing Defensemen and would be a perfect accusation for the Leafs.

What do you guys think of this trade?

Hard pass from the Leafs POV.

Hanifin has simply not lived up to his draft position.

If they're prepared to trade Nylander for a #4 defenceman, they'd be much better served doing it for Brett Pesce, who at least is a perfect complement for both Rielly & Muzzin.

As an Oiler fan... NO!

Honestly, Hanifin is just another Justin Schultz. Nice skating offensive D that ideally should be playing 3rd pairing, maybe 2nd pairing. I expected him to be a lot better than he has shown.

Hanifin would be our 3rd best LHD, and we have Dermott, Sandin, and Lehtonen as LHD as well (although 1-2 of them can play RD).

Nah. Flames pass.
Nylander isn’t the guy that’s going to get us over the hump. Doesn’t have the ability to be the guy when it gets tough. That’s what we need more of.

Not entirely sure this meets either teams needs. Trading Nylander is fine if they’re addressing the need on the right side, which Hanifin does not. It also creates a hole in the top 6 they would be gambling on trying to fill it internally. Also Calgary needs right handed defense, much like the Leafs, more than they need playmaking RWers.

This also provides Toronto with $2 million in cap space, so not as skewed as it looks at first. I'd be all over this. Would even add (please do not ask for Bennett or a 1st).

Calgary desperately needs more players that can generate offence unassisted. Nylander is that.

Not exactly a player that doesn't have similar flaws to current complaints of the Flames roster... but this is definitely a start the car type of trade.

Agreed. Nylander has similar flaws to our complaints with Monahan/Gaudreau and a few of the guys, but if that's the asking price and a wee bit more, you definitely see if you can make it work.

TML obviously hates this trade IMO.
