As the title is saying, I'm looking for top goalscorers who have never scored more than 20 goals in a season during their careers. I got idea came from a baseball-forum, where somebody was looking for top batters with 15 or less homeruns in a season.

Thanks in advance.

Eric Nesterenko had 250 career goals, but his highest in a season was exactly 20, so he never had over 20 in a season.

For players who never hit 20 in a season, I think the answer is Larry Robinson with 208 career goals (highest in a season- 19)

These are just educated guesses. Only pnep knows for sure.

I know it says 20 Max, but I saw this the other day, and I thought it partially relevant.

Wayne Gretzky.

1998-99, his final season, 70GP 9G. Granted he had 53 assists, but this thread is about goals.

Change the threshold to 32 goals, and I bet Ron Francis has close to double the next-highest guy.

550 goals, and a maximum of 32. Crazy.

Ray Bourque had 410 goals with a high of 31.

Amongst forwards though, Francis probably has a much bigger gap. The best I could find off the top of my head was Scott Mellanby with 364 career goals and Bobby Holik with 326.

As far as I can tell, here's the highest totals for some other thresholds (pending confirmation from Pnep)

Most career goals without a 30 or more goal season: Dale Hunter 323 (max-28)
Most career goals without a 40 or more goal season: Ron Francis 549 (max-32)
Most career goals without a 50 or more goal season: Gordie Howe 801 (max-49)

It would take a long time to determine the most goals by a player who never had a 10 goal season, but I vaguely recall that being a trivia question on here a few years ago with the answer being Doug Harvey (career-88 max-9). Though it's possible either I'm wrong or that someone else has passed him since.

Wow, Delvecchio actually got pretty close to Francis.

Though, his 456 goals are infinitely more impressive than Francis' 500+. He was top-10 and top-20 numerous times; Francis was not even top-30 the year he scored 32.

Keep in mind this is for the whole career not just one season. Gretzky had over 20 every season other than his last and the lockout shortened season.

I think Lidström has quite a good chance to take the lead here before his career is over.
