Finns have the 3 best forwards in my opinion with Rantanen, Barkov and Aho. Both sides are great, but i'll pick Finns for that reason

With ages:
Swedes:
Forsberg (28)
Bäckström (35)
Zibanejad (29)
Lindholm (27)
Nylander (26)
Landeskog (30)
Pettersson (24)

Finns:
Aho (25)
Laine (24)
Teräväinen (28)
Barkov (27)
Rantanen (26)
Hintz (26)
Granlund (30)

Finns are tad younger and better peak players. Its more safer bet to take Finns for now and for the future.

Sweden has better depth, Finland has better top end. Homer vote Finland, but top end also is more important. And someone like Barkov just is far better than anyone for Sweden.

But why do you not have Jesper Bratt here? He has 70 points in 73 games.

By the way, if it was top 8 instead this would be closer. Since Sweden adds Bratt and Finland adds, who? Rookie Lundell?

Finland.

Best overall forward of the group in Barkov and the best winger of the group as well

1) Rantanen - 91 points (FIN)
2) Barkov - 88 points (FIN) - Missed ~10 games
3) Forsberg - 80 points (SWE) - Missed ~10 games
4) Lindholm - 80 points (SWE)
5) Zibanejad - 80 points (SWE)
6) Aho - 79 points (FIN)
7) Nylander - 76 points (SWE)
8) Hintz - 70 points (FIN)
9) Pettersson - 66 points (SWE)
10) Teräväinen - 63 points (FIN)
11) Landeskog - 59 points (SWE) - Missed ~25 games
12) Granlund - 58 points (FIN)
13) Laine - 56 points (FIN) - Missed ~20 games
14) Backstrom - 31 points (SWE) - Missed ~30 games

It's close. I'd lean Finland for this poll based on how their top 7 players are performing this season.

But Sweden is deeper and I'd probably want a team of Sweden's forwards over a team of Finland's forwards.

Agreed. I think Finland has better top end but Sweden is deeper overall.

I'd take this

Forsberg- Pettersson - Lindholm
Landeskog - Zibanejad - Nylander
Bratt - Backstrom - Raymond
Olofsson - Eriksson Ek - Arvidsson
Rakell/Kempe/Burakovsky/Nyquist/W. Karlsson/Backlund

over

Laine - Barkov - Rantanen
Teravainen - Aho - Granlund
Lundell - Hintz - Kapanen
Lehkonen - Kotkaniemi - Puljujarvi
Haula/Tolvanen/Donskoi/Luotsarinen

As a roster it's not close.

I didn't realize how much Finland had caught up with the Swedes. They're also pretty close in goaltending. Sweden still has a big advantage at D, but you have to wonder if that will start to change as these younger guys develop.

Yea top 7 feels a bit selective. 7 is the amount of first liners Finland has.

Honestly, that top-end of Finland's roster is better. It's just a kind of weird cut-off that deliberately skirts the "depth" comparison that tells a very different story between the two nations. It's impressive that Finland have that sort of Top-6 though. It's quite the formidable group of a half dozen or so players, that can compete with any nation on the planet.

It's also funny how far it drops off from there.

I came into this thread fully expecting to vote for the Swedes. Looked at the names on the Finnish side and was like... wait, wait a minute.

Barkov and Aho do it for me; two of my favourite players to watch in the NHL.

Finnish OP makes a selective cutoff 7…

Could have just left it top 6 and Finland could still just as well likely win.

Even as a Swede, I would go Finland in this case. I would swap Bäckström for Eriksson-Ek for Sweden though and it's the bottom 3 that makes it close, as Finland clearly has the better top 3.
