Some DM me to update my precedent list done in January with a new list with the new prospect.
I limited myself to 50 players because I usually do it in the summer or at Christmas so more time to do my research check more clip and etc...

My background ;
I'm 22 year old , work in the Midget AAA team in Quebec City. I was a skills coach & scout in the Q last year. I'm specialist into the ''long term development'' of a player , in another word that I don't like , i'm a skills coach. My point of view is often dictated by the way the player use his skills to be efficient in a game. How he place his head to take information on ice? Where he put his puck around his body? Are he able to punch turn and make fake with it?

I'm not bilingual , far from that so I try to do my best.
Enjoy

Last List ;
Butch's Top 130 Prospects
Butch's top 150 Prospect List
Butch List 115
Butch's List of the top 175 Drafted Prospects

Few thoughts ;
Tim Stutzle gonna be a star in the league. He reminds me so much of David Pasternak with lesser shooting. He's not super fast or super strong , but he's dynamic enough with his crossover to be dangerous on the rush. He's puck placement around is body is Wonderfull , allow him to had more time on ice. Always the head inside the play , ready to control the game. His hands is pretty good and he can place the puck anywhere he want.

I'm from Qc and is not dishonour to Alex Lefrenière , but I see that Stuztle is far away than his higher ceiling than Lafrenière. I think Lafrenière will be a very good first liner, bring lot of passion and drive to the game but the way is take control of the game is more difficult to translate than Stutzle in 3 or 5 years.

Drysdale is a fantastic skater with a high IQ. All the tools to be a terrific defenseman close to the 4 young defenseman who's rock the league this season

Zegras was always in my favorite player, was in my top 3 last draft. His ability to control the game with that passing abilities is amazing

Raymond is a dynamic player who can easily create seperation in downlo and off the rush

Bowen Byram had a disappointing year, I was thinking that he was more dynamic but I was wrong. I think he will be a terrific player like Ryan Suter but he will not put a lot of point of board, especially with the D-Core of Colorado AVS. Still projecting him as top 20 defenseman in the league

Branstrom will rock the league with his particular game as defenseman. One of the best to beat player on his blue line which majority of defenseman are to scary to do. Skating is wow

Kaprizov will be a 60-70 point producer , I'm 100% sur of that. Want to make the difference

Caufield is the best IQ shooting on this board. His ability to change his angle using some tactique of Matthews(Switch leg) Laine (ride shot and rise one T) and Mackinnon (Inside shot in mouvement) is very very rare. I will score a lot of goals in the NHL because he understand the goalie

Matias Norlinder could be in the top 5 one year ago from now. His skills package is special.....Watch him

I project Sandin Bouchard Seider and Sodestrom to be solid defenseman in the NHL. I really like Bouchard since day one , his soft/smooth style of game combine with solid size with the ability to make magical pass is rare.

I had work a lot with Lappy last year. In believe in him like no one. What a young person! Passionate about the game. High end IQ with dynamic foot work. We work on his shoot a LOT and I'm proud that he had scored two goal already with his shooting tools.

Batherson is the next Mark Stone for me. You will want him on your team in Stanley cup final

I compare Nils Lunkvist to Andrei Markov.

I'm glad to see Jonathan Berggren doing well this season. He was in my top 10 two year ago and I'm confident that he will be able to be the Viktor Arvidsson in the Detroit lineup

Don't sleep on Joe Veleno. His game will be hard to develop but he will end up as a Patrice Bergeron style of player. I know we put that name often when we try to find comparable but he really think that the style of play and the speed of Joe Veleno can turn him into a good top 6 center

I'm high on Ryan Poehling since a long time. His situation with the Canadien cool me down but him still confident on him.

But still my 7 defenseman in my ranking. All these defenseman have more upside offensively than Seider in my opinion. When I talk about offensive it's not about goal and point but generate odd man rush and beat a player on breakout. Drysdale have definitely this ability . Byram and Seider I could see people why they like more Byram but for me I see in Byram a dominant IQ and mature defenseman with the skating ability to play a lot in a game and make a impact into it. Branstrom his something else about skating and offensive skillset.. Norlinder could bust be he reminds me so much of Quinn Hughes and Rasmus Dahlin that I have to put him above him. I'm gambler so....For Sandin , he had a simple game very efficient. I could see a argument for Seider before him

For me Seider is the Byram, type , a defenseman who will player a lot and a lot in a game but a simple game with more impact in the defensive aspect in the game. I don't say that Seider will not put 40 on board but I feel he will do it in a way of Shea Weber. Shot at the net , produce some rebound etc. Bouchard had a edge on his passing ability. Seider reminds me Dobson.

But again, the vision of a defenseman is different for every people. Some people will like more a Shea Weber ; some people will like more a Heinskane and other one will be liking Quinn Hughes. It's very tricky to rank the defenseman because is not because you think that the 1st option defenseman is better than the third one. In this way , I like more the style of defenseman of Sodestrom but I still ank Seider higher
  1. Jamie Drysdale
  2. Bowen Byram
  3. Erik Branstrom
  4. Matias Norlinder
  5. Rasmus Sandin

Both are in my HM. Valimaki is 51 and Pelletier 60 approx.

Valimaki is in my « Pool for life » I believe in him but this long strecht with no see it’s tough to still rank him that high after lot of guy climbing in my projection

i see pelletier play since Bantam. I think he will be a third liner...A guy that you will want in a stanley cup final but i feel that Tomasino for example have more upside to play top 6 or explode.

So I guess Merkley got pushed off the list? I think he might surprise you once he hits the AHL and scores boatloads of points.

i have merkley very high on my list for few year but now i have to many report of true bad experience with the kid so it’s why i left him up here. I think he could go 22 with the good attitude

This is very difficult to make a report when you don’t know the kid

it’s why he was on my top 10 on his draft list. I’m not able to make judgement of echo

But i’m getting older now and i put more respect of the intangibles in my ranking. Everything i heard about him was not good like a guy you dont want in your locker room often he put 60 point on board.

i’m glad to hear that he’s got better. Is very special, remind me a version of a better Sam Girars offensively and i loooove Girard. If he can turn his defensive game(not on the rush but in D-zone) like Girard, he could en up and be a top 2 defenseman.

A few odd rankings.

Brannstrom at 9
Norlinder at 14
Lapierre at 22
Newhook at 26
Poehling being ranked at all.
No Valimaki.

I agree with you on all takes besides Norlinder. I have honestly never been more hyped by a prospect. He is that good. You watch him play and think he's just an offensive dynamo but then you see his defensive play/stats/ metrics and they're fantastic. He has the defensive abilities of suter/ Chara.

I believe Frolunda's head coach said "He's the best 2 way defenceman he has coached ever in Frolunda" that's how high he is on him considering he coached Dahlin and Esa Lindell.

Decent list, good job. As a FLA fan, good to see Denisenko and Lundell crack the top 50.
Feel Tippett and Denisenko could easily swap spots imo.

All FLA fans are hyping on Lundell right now, he's doing big things in Liiga right now.

Tippett seems like more of a consistent passenger type (Kessel lite) that has a ceiling of ~25 goals and 55-60pts
His floor would be 20 goals and 45pts

Denisenko is a line driving/playmaking winger (Kucherov lite) with a ceiling of ~20 goals and 55-60 pts
His floor would be 15 goals and 45pts

One is better at sniping and using his size and speed where the other is better at line driving/skating the puck with speed and finding the open man.

Lol, who you are to treat me a fefans? I love hockey, not a team. I will not change my listing because I'm afraid to be called a homer

Poehling are in my top 30 since two year. I will not change my mind after 1 bad year. Yeah it's scary, mostly is thinking, but I truly think that Poehling have the upside to be a good top 6 player, or a very good third liner. I was hoping that his skating can turn out better, but obviously my expectation is lower now.

Norlinder manipulate the play like no one. Yeah Seider had a little bit of Hedman in him, but Norlinder has something special.

Caufield was in my top 5 at his draft...Before CH take him...

Valimaki is in my pool for life. I don't considered him a prospect anymore, maybe I should.
