I'm assuming (although I could be wrong), that the top 5 for 2005 at this moment includes Vitaly Anikeenko, Daniel Bertram, Gilbert Brule, Sidney Crosby, and Guillaume Latendresse. How does this group compare to the top 5 of 2004 (say Ovechkin, Malkin, Olesz, Barker, Schwarz), and to 2003? They look pretty good, but I'd like to hear some opinions.

Top 5, 2003 does not take the cake.

Though it's not like there behind either.

The Top say 60 in 2003, demolish the top 60 in 2004 or 2005

The Top end talent in 2004 and 2005 may even be better then the 2003 draft...

Though consider, with lower down players like Tobias Enstrom, Dustin Byfuglien, Igor Mironov etc 2003 has much more overall depth, also if second rounders such as O'Sullivan, Fristche, Pusharyev, Glazachev etc turn out there are players in the 2003 draft that were drafted lower that have the potential down the road to be the best Top 5 of any of those drafts...

Aesthetically(sp?) speaking, Fleury, Staal, Horton, Zherdev, and Vanek may be no better then the Top 5 of the other years, when based simply on the order of the top 5...

However 2003 has much more potential that say if Vanek busts, O'Sullivan, Bernier, Parise, Kastistyn for all we know could become insanely good players worthy of being in that top 5...

undeniably this happens ever year with Demitras and Fleury's and such, however it's quite clear that 2003 has the most potential for this occurence

Just my personal opinion would have 2005 first, I am a really big fan of this draft, though it is still early, but its has ALOT of guys who could bust out next season and become 'first rounders' I think around draft time in '05 people will be comparing its depth to that of '03.
