We have tried discussing this topic and it doesn't seem to be one that many people can agree on. Conventional KHL big powers - Ak Bars, Salavat, Magnitka, Avto, Avangard, Dynamo Moscow, SKA, CSKA, Loko, Jokerit would be in it for sure. They would be serious title challengers in any other European league. Since the number you gave is 30 strong mid-table teams like Barys, Traktor, Spartak would make the cut as well as big teams from other leagues: Tappara, Karpat, Mannheim, Munchen, Lugano, Zurich, Bern, Zug, Trinec, Kometa Brno, Frolunda, Vaxjo, Skelleftea..
Then it comes to this even playing field where you can probably name 30 or so teams competing for the rest of the spots that are roughly at the same level. Another problem is that teams in Sweden or Switzerland have different cycles compared to the rest of Europe. In the KHL it's mostly same teams competing for the same position year after year. Same in the Czech Republic or Finland with a rare team here and there which manages to get into a big boy race. In Sweden or Switzerland, you can go from finals to being relegated in 2 years (so it happened to Djurgardens) and then back to the finals (where they again played last year). Zurich played in relegation playouts last year even though they are probably the most successful Swiss team over last 10 years. You get the picture.
