In the WHL:

Beach is the best prospect; should be top 5 overall right now I'd say. Boychuk is overrated imo; I wouldn't have him any earlier than mid or late first. Schenn and Teubert are closer than that I think; both look to be likely top 15 picks. Wahl maybe falls somewhere mid first round I'd guess. Hard to judge for me because I'm only really familiar with the WHL, but that is roughly where I would have those guys right now. Obviously subject to massive changes throughout the year.

I'm not sure where this David Toews hype is coming from? Just the name?

I scouted Shattuck several times this year, and Toews wasn't anything special. To his credit he's a smart player who sees the ice well and is a good play maker. His hands are decent and he thinks the game well. That said he's much smaller than his brother and his skating is poor.

I was just as impressed with Shattuck's other 2008 eligibles such as Brock Montpetit, David Carle, and Jordan Murray.

In fact the best prospect on the team this year was a 2009 eligible, Stepan Novotny.

If Toews handles himself well in the USHL this season and works on his skating, then his stock will go up. But he's not top 10 material.

Toews had an impressive U17 Tourny last year. He was one of the big reasons Manitoba made it to the finals.

I think if he went to Brandon he might be a top 20 pick

exactly, playing in the CHL gives more scouts to look at him. for instance if mayorov was north american he'd be gone in the first 5. I think Toews should go there.

You must also devalue certain CHL Jrs on the NA list now because many more JR A and U.S. Jr and H.S. players will be preferred by NHL teams than ever before in higher draft positions because they can hold their rights longer as they go through the NCAA ..

Haven't NHL teams always been able to hold onto NCAA players' rights longer than CHL players?

The Shattuck to North Dakota path didn't hurt Jonathan's ranking very much. Or Zach Parise's. Or Drew Stafford's. He'll do just fine without the CHL.

David will have to wait an extra year before he gets to the NCAA. It looks like he will be playing in the USHL this year. Why he wouldnt want to report to Brandon who have a very good program and have churned out NHL prospects like crazy in the last few years is beyond me.

As an Islander fan, you will undertand why I am asking for some info. Give me you top five players for the upcoming draft and give comparisons or just general info. I know it is early but humor me. I currently need something to look foward to.

I don't think he's top 10- just outside that- but he impressed me during the CWGs. His speed isn't elite, not yet, but from what I've seen, his sense of timing is such that it gives him an edge over opposing defensemen. He's also got an extra gear when in close.

Tons of heart with him, and I think he may be a better leader than his brother if that's possible. Definitely a winner.

Hmm.. To be honest I didn't get to see him at that event.

He reminds me of a smaller, poor mans version of his brother. But I love his hockey sense, anticipation, vision, and hand skill. We'll see, I'm anxious to see how he handles the pace of the play in the USHL or WHL.

i agree that he is overrated at this point. if his last name was taves not toews he would have alot less talk surrounding him.

yea, but they had all played a year of ncaa hockey during their draft year. david toews will be drafted before he gets to college. this wont hurt his developemnt, but going to the dub would likely help his draft stock.

i dont think d toews can play in the ushl because hes considered an import, and hockey canada regulates whether its players can play juniors in the usa. thats why i asked if he was headed to bchl like former shattuck canadian player pat rogan.

Thanks.

Stamkos should be 3rd or 2nd if not first, Phil Mcrae shouldent even be on that list.
Drew Doughty should be way near the top same with David Toews.
Since I live in Sarnia I go and watch the sting games all the time and yea Stamkos is a great player. But alot of his goals came on the powerplay or were rebound goals. And Stammer has got to learn to keep his head up

I also live in Sarnia and have seen Stamkos play frequently, he skates well and creates his own plays. Drives hard to the net and carries defenders along the way. His shot is already better than most NHL'ers and he has good vision. Plus, he plays like Eric Staal does now and he's only going to get better during his draft year. Stamkos isn't in a class with Crosby, Ovechkin or Tavares but he does have 50 goal-100 point potential in the NHL one day.

He has No.1 written all over him. The only other prospect who can give him a run...right now...for that position is Drew Doughty.

Cup:)

Well, his first list was a debacle, so there needed to be a great deal of movement. While this is marginally better than his first effort, it's still pretty whack.

Just my opinion, but a second round rating might be a bit high for Mosher. He has only played 150 mins in the QMJHL and the highest level that he did well at was midget.
