Just bumping this thread up, as it was an annual tradition to vote on the top 20 Jets prospects each season. Unfortunately, my charts are not compatible with the new software, so the lists will have to do. I would imagine Connor, Roslovic, and Poolman "graduated" to become pro.

Vesalainen would be my vote for the 2018 top Jets prospect.

Did you wanna setup the voting polls? I asked in prospect thread if anyone was willing to do it?

Man, there are some names on there that I once had very high hopes for. Kulda was a beast when he played, but he just couldn't stick. I feel like Telegin could've been very good had he been given the right opportunities.

My biggest disappointment over the years was Burmistrov though. I was certain he was gonna be a star.

He played the position of... Safety?

All I know is Sutter attended the University of Saskatchewan in 2016-17, and played a handful of games, and now plays in the ACHW (Allan Cup Hockey West) for the Rosetown Red Wings, a small town in Saskatchewan. I guess with all the Sutter money, he can afford to play hockey for fun, and worry about an education later on.

4 Grads from 2017: Connor (1), Roslovic (2), Poolman (5), Tanev (23)
5 Dropped from the team: Foley (12), De Leo (16), Phillips (NR), Kostalek (NR), Stallard (NR)
3 New: Gustafsson (5), Smith (13), Vallati (19), [Moe, Chisholm, Wong - outside Top 20]
1 Added: Kerdiles (18), [Bourque - outside Top 20]

Biggest Jump: Appleton +16 (HM: Suess + 12)
Biggest Fall: Harkins -7 (HM: Comrie -6)

Only 3 2018 draft picks made the Top 20 - that ties with 2016 and 2012 for the fewest new picks to make the list in a year. All 3 of those drafts, the Jets had only 6 picks.

Is it possible to still make polls? I remember when this thread had the old hfboards format, and it looked pretty cool. I'm looking forward to ranking our top 20 prospects, even though most of our best young players are now in the NHL.

Why were the Thrashers prospects so terrible in 2011? Didn't the Jets keep most of the same scouts that Atlanta had? Why did the Thrashers draft so poorly?

I'm almost positive the Jets "cleaned house" when they acquired the Thrashers. In terms of management/coaching, they let nearly everyone from Atlanta go. I can only assume that they let most of the scouts go as well.

No, they kept many of the scouts - they let the Thrashers' Director of Amateur Scouting (Dan Marr) go immediately and promoted Thrashers Head Amateur Scout Marcel Comeau to Director. He oversaw many great drafts by the Jets: Scheifele, Lowry, Trouba, Hellebuyck, Morrissey, Copp, Ehlers, Connor, Roslovic, Appleton, Niku. (The 2011-2015 drafts).

In 2016, Comeau stepped down as Director and another old Atlanta scout that stuck with the team, Mark Hillier, took over. He's overseen the drafts that brought in Laine, Stanley, Berdin, Vesalainen, Samberg, Gustafsson, etc (i.e. the last 3 drafts).

The Thrashers' scouts who are still here: Bogdanovic (now Director of European Scouting), Dobson (Atlanta's Director of Pro Scouting, who's still in that role today with the Jets).

Some other scouts stuck around with the Jets for a few seasons. Tavis MacMillan and John Perpich have since moved on.

They added lots of new scouts as well, of course. Aside from all the Atlanta guys who ran/run the director positions, most of the current regular scouts are Jets hires. But the first few seasons it was predominately the Thrashers scouting staff plus some new hires.

Oh and Assistant GM Larry Simmons is another guy that came over from the Thrashers.

There are as many ex-Thrashers management and scouts working for the Jets as there are former Moose people:

Moose: Zinger, Flaherty, St. Croix, Roy and Keane.
Thrashers: Simmons, Dobson, Hillier, Bogdanovich, Comeau

Anyway, you can thank the Thrashers' scouting department for that "Golden Age" of Jets drafting from 2011-2015. ;)

Most were already on the team, joined as 18 year olds. It wasn't as bad as it appeared. Bogo, Kane, Burmi all made the team at 18.
