top 20 from past 6 drafts

So in other words, the HF top 20 plus a couple of young roster players.

so in other words, just whine about it. Are we not allowed to have different lists than what appears on HF? Excuse me for wanting some different opinions.

There are teams with prospects from before 2001 still in their top 20, there are also free agents. Danis and Cote for instance weren't drafted and don't qualify for this list, but you see them in some Habs' top 20 lists.

the main purpose of this was to compare teams' drafting records over the past six years. simply by looking at teams top 20 lists from HF doesn't achieve that accurately.

6 years seems like a strange number to just take out of the air, but ok.

Edmonton:
1. Hemsky
2. Stoll
3. Schremp
4. Cogliano
5. Pouliot
6. Greene
7. Dubnyk
8. Trukhno
9. Chorney
10. Markkanen
11. Jacques
12. Petry
13. Brodziak
14. Deslauriers
15. Roy
16. Syvret
17. Peckham
18. McDonald
19. Young
20. Paukovich

And just because, the Edmonton all time drafted team:

Smyth - Messier - Kurri
Anderson - Arnott - Hemsky
Tikkanen - Comrie - Satan
Ruchinsky - Horcoff - Buchberger

Coffee - Lowe
Smith - Beukeboom
Poti - Greene

Fuhr
Moog

I didn't just take the figure out of the air....2001 was the first Montreal draft after the Houle era. I wanted to see how Montreal's drafting stacks up in the Andre Savard/Trevor Timmins era, and i think it stacks up pretty well.

I debated putting a question mark after future NHLers LOL ..I agree it's too early to annoint Valentenko, D'agostini and a few others 'future NHLers', but they're heading in that direction.

FYI I talked to Trevor Timmins yesterday afternoon, and he raved about Valentenko and his play at the WJC; really loves his character and grit, and would like to see him come over with Emelin and be tutored by a re-signed Markov some day.

Timmins mentioned one particular play where Pavel jumped on the ice and went after Downie. He was really impressed by his toughness and leadership.

Well, he played like a friggin bonehead, and TT should figure out that Valentenko took penalties while Canada were dominating due to their Power Play.

Well, my call

1 : Chris Higgins, 2002, 1-14
2 : Guillaume Latendresse, 2005, 2-45
3 : Carey Price, 2005, 1-5
4 : Mike Komisarek, 2001, 1-7
5 : Kyle Chipchura, 2004,1-18
6 : Mikhail Grabovski, 2004, 5-150
7 : Tomas Plekanec, 2001, 3-71
8 : Mark Streit, 2004, 9-262
9 : Alex Perezhoghin, 2001, 1-25
10 : Jaroslav Halak, 2003, 9-271
11 : Ben Maxwell
12 : Alexei Emelin
13 : Maxim Lapierre, 2003, 2-61 (How is that possible, there's only 30 teams!)
14 : Ryan White
15 : Sergei Kostitsyn
16 : David Fischer
17 : Mathieu Carle
18 :Andrei Kostitsyn
19 : Ryan O'Byrne
20 : Jonathan Ferland

I put him #5 on my list, which is probably too high. But I wasn't just ranking our best prospects. I was trying to rank our best picks. And that factors in value based on when the guy was selected. Getting Perrault in the 6th round and then seeing him turn around and be top 3 in the Q in scoring is a heck of a pull. Perrault is small, but so is Pat Kane. And I think the Caps may have grabbed a poor man's Pat Kane about 175 picks later than Pat Kane will go in this year's draft.

Maybe a couple higher, but he's still got a ways to go. If he can bulk up and get a little faster, I'd have no problem moving him up closer to Bouchard but he's just too small at this point. Compared to Kane, he looks small. I'm not sure that Perreault is close to being as good a playmaker as Kane but he does seem to be very well balanced, good on the PK and anticipating the play before it happens.

The other problem I have with him lately is that he's not producing as much without Thomas Beauregard. Earlier in the year when they were playing together, it seemed that both were equally dominant. Now, Beauregard is putting up points consistently on their top line and Perreault down on their second line isn't doing nearly as much. That's due to not having as good linemates but he's also been a little snakebit and pressing from what I've heard. Still, he's a promising sixth round pick...which isn't very common coming from GMGM.

Not sure where on the list he would go, but hopefully you Oilers fans are aware of the great season David Rolhfs (5th round, 2003) is having at the University of Michigan. His reputation has always been that of a defensive forward. He was so good at this role, that he played the entire 04-05 season as a defensemen when Michigan was a little shallow at the blue line. He did a solid job as a defensemen, converted back to forward last year, and this year, as a senior, he has 12 goals and 11 assists in 23 games, while still playing great 2-way hockey. Most people figured this point per game pace had a lot to do with feeding off of being the 3rd wheel on the 1st line with TJ Hensick and Kevin Porter, but just this week he was moved down to the 3rd line with two unheralded players to try and give the team a 3rd scoring line, and his new line has produced 4 goals in 2 games (with David scoring 2 of them, and assisting on another). Compare those 4 goals in 2 games to the 7 goals in 21 games that the Michigan 3rd line had produced before David got there.

I really think this guy has a chance to make the Edmonton roster and contribute as a 3rd/4th line winger. He's big (6'3, 235), physical, plays both ends effectively, and is proficient at scoring ugly goals. He's especially great on the penalty kill, where his instincts as a former defensemen really takeover. Not the quickest skater, but an all around smart and hard working player.

you sure talk like you figure you're quite a bit brighter than Timmins so i guess we best all agree.:shakehead

Thanks for providing your Hab list as well; as mine would never stack up to your highnesses. I was waiting for it with bated breath

There are notable differences you should consider when weighing your opinion with Timmins even though you apparently figure you're a lot better hockey man than him - he was actually at the tournament, and saw more of Valentenko than flashes of him on a TV screen. As well - he actually saw Valentenko play in more than one contest, and didn't judge his entire tourrnament based on a couple of minor penalties in one contest.

I'll try and do a by order for Chicago

1. Brent Seabrook
2. Jonathon Toews
3. Cam Barker
4. Tuomo Ruutu
5. Duncan Keith
6. Jack Skille
7. Dave Bolland
8. James Wisniewski
9. Troy Brouwer
10. Lasse Kukkonen (now with flyers in the Williams trade)
11. Petri Kontiola
12. Igor Makorov
13. Anton Babchuk (with carolina in the Vrbata/Richmond trade)
14. Mike Blunden
15. Corey Crawford
16. Bryan Bickell
17. Dustin Byfuglien
18. Nate Davis
19. Evan Brophey
20. Niklas Hjalmarsson

Bertram, Juutilainen, Fraser, Dowell and Fallon just miss out.

The list is obviously just my take on them now combining their potential with their current play. So obviously Barker/Toews could develop to be better than Seabrook but at the moment Seabrook is better and so on.
