Barbosa is a BJJ brown belt under Almeida, so yeah I think he would be okay.

I like that list, Bertuzzzi.

I still don’t get the Vitor high ranking, but he seems to have a strong following.

Since you're not taking steroids into account, Jon Jones has to be #1

He beat #5, #12, #16 and #20 on your list in convincing fashion

And Silva holds convincing wins over #5, #12 plus 3 wins over honorable mentions.

He also has 7 losses on his resume (I'm not counting the DQ loss to Okami)

Jones is unbeaten (I'm not counting the DQ loss to Hamill)

The losses after the leg break are not fair to hold against him because it was miraculous he was even able to come back after such a horrific injury at his age. The early losses were while he was still developing. In Anderson’s prime he went undefeated from 2005-2012 with 19 wins and 11 title defences, that’s more impressive then the run Jones has been on. Also Anderson’s wins have been more impressive, more spectacular KOs.

Royce gracie was the best ever .Belfort was a power machine fueled by steroids so hes out.
Keep in mind how the structure was in the etlra of Gracie and no weight class
Gracie at apporox 180 lbs fought abd one vs Dan Severyn at 250. Lbs.
Royce wasn't even the best Gracie.

I usually don't like these lists, but I'm bored today:

TIER 1:
1. Jon Jones

TIER 2:
2. GSP
3. Anderson Silva
4. Fedor

TIER 3:
5. Daniel Cormier
6. Fabricio Werdum
7. Jose Aldo
8. Demitrious Johnson

TIER 4:
9. Dan Henderson
10. Chuck Liddell
11. Matt Hughes
12. Big Nog

Those are my top 12 with inside the tiers being fairly interchangeable.

This is my post from a year ago, but I think I'll have to do an update soon.

I think Cormier jumps into the top 4.

I find Aldo, McGregor, and Holloway really tough to rank at this point.

I felt great about my list at the time (and still feel good about the top 4 or 5) but it gets messy after that.

This is a pretty good list. I'd switch Jones and Silva tho. McGregor and Sakuraba are way too high imo. How do you rank Sakuraba above Wanderlei?

Wanderlei nearly killed him on multiple occasions.

Your list is really good. I'd drop Liddell down a bit. I rank Wanderlei and Shogun above him at lhw. It's arguable tho. I agree that it gets tough after the top 5.

Looking at Vitor's career, he has certainly fought a lot big profile fights, but he lost a vast majority of them.

He is more of a top 30 guy imo.

I Love Gus but he has never been champion whereas guys on that list have. Very good fighter, but not top 30.

Rua at 23 seems way too low

I'd say he's arguably top 10, having wins over Liddell, Rampage, Coleman, Machida, Randleman, Arona, Overeem twice

Other than the loss to Coleman when he landed awkwardly on his arm and suffered an injury, Rua was otherwise undefeated in Pride

Skill-wise and stylistically, he's essentially a smaller version of Fedor

What exactly did Pat Miletich do to earn a spot in your top 20?

His biggest win appears to be against Shonie Carter

That's fair two, I supposed I'm letting a portion of his coaching career (in particular with Matt Hughes) bleed in here. I guess put Jones or Cormier up there. I generally don't like guys busted for the juice (especially twice), nor guys who can't keep their lives out of the ring in order, but as a fighter Jones is still likely the better fighter, even if I think Cormier is a bit more deserving of the accolade.

I guess swap out Rich too then.

It's a pretty good list. I'd say having guys like Machida, Dillashaw, Belfort, Ortiz, Cro Cop, Wanderlei and Jackson over Edgar is borderline criminal though. I also think I'd have Frank Shamrock higher. Demetrius Johnson should probably go above Aldo, Hughes above Cruz, and Rua should be higher as mentioned.

A good list overall though, and most fighters are hard to place within an exact spot or two. It might almost be easier to just do it as a tier system than a strict 'top 20 or 30'.

I think Hughes is being somewhat overrated

Does anybody think prime Hughes would beat Woodley?

Fighters evolved rapidly, do you think prime Royce Gracie beats a guy like Dos Anjos? Hughes was much better than his competition during his reign.

But it was easier back then for Hughes to be "much better than his competition during his reign"

So, Hughes isn't as good as Woodley. And Hughes' competition wasn't as tough as what Woodley faces. Yet, Hughes is ranked higher?

I'm not sure that's the best way to be ranking fighters
