The Nighbor legend is unassailable here now. By all accounts, he was tremendous away from the puck, though.

I'm not 100% sure this is sarcastic, but I think it is so I'm going to answer accordingly, and please accept by apologies if I've misjudged.

Since the conversation began with a question about Denneny, can we at least agree that game reports show that Nighbor was clearly held in higher esteem? And that we shouldn't just overturn that because of scoring stats?

Qpq lives in Michigan...works in Australia... #factsonly

I used to put my location as Adelaide on an old forum just because I was always awake at the same time as the Australians on the board so they adopted me.

Anyway I’ll get the breakdown for the 24 ballots tomorrow when I’m not on the cellphone:

Bernie Geoffrion - 177
Earl Seibert - 166
Andy Bathgate - 153
Marcel Dionne - 151
Scott Stevens - 146

Tim Horton - 144
Georges Vezina - 125
Al MacInnis - 118
Frank Mahovlich - 78
Teemu Selanne - 62

I didn't expect Dickie Moore to rise from the wingers list!

After thinking about things I actually had Mahovlich 1 spot ahead of him.

Oh well. Pretty good results regardless.

Edit: except for those nasty ties and almlst ties at the bottom.

Given these results, we honestly should just add 3 players, but I don't want to stsrt another procedural crapstorm... :)

Other than Clapper being held back, I'm okay with the justice that was served with this Vote.

I suppose that, ultimately, Benedict's luggage did not fit easily into the overhead compartment- and I'm all right with the Tribe's pronouncement on this matter.

Moore was a guy that: the more I looked, the more I saw... and Mahovlich-- well- the more I looked, the less I saw- so that seems fine to me.

I was pretty un-enthused with the nominees at first- but they grew on me as I perused them in more depth. We had a good talk last Round- let's keep it rolling!!

... Wow, I absolutely did not expect Dickie Moore passing all of Denneny (they were virtually tied, but still), Mahovlich and Selanne from the Wingers project.

Dickie Moore comes in 4th, though he got votes for everything but 4th.

Only Horton & Vezina got more first place votes than last place Durnan.

... This I actually understand. There are doubts (that I disagree with, but that I can certainly see as legit) regarding pre-forward pass goaltending, not to mention Benedict possibly perceived as being carried by his team (his performance with the Maroons should partly put this theory to rest, but still), while there also is a solid argument that Durnan was the best netminder in the league for pretty much his whole career, AND, that he was actually good enough to play in the league much before joining (but didn't do so, due to money).

Let me just leave this here...
If you wanted Patrick Kane eligible, you should have ranked him higher.
... and recycle a point I made earlier [although the search for the specific post escapes me]. I said that, as we're dealing with such narrow differences between players, I could envision our assessment of players undergoing some tweaks during the season. For instance, who could have anticipated?:

Patrick Kane having a Hart-finalist grade year, at an age when players of his skill-set tend to have visible decline, all while having not much more than butt-nothing in the way of teammate-help.

Evgeni Malkin basically ovulating.

That said, and with the Vote Deadline coming up in about twelve hours, thought once again turns to the potential nominees for the next Round. There are probably about 20-25 names that I'd be comfortable discussing at this point in our mission. Just as long as we don't throw in another 110s-type like Brett Hull, or (Hockey Gods forbid!) some guy I De-Listed like, I don't know- Erik Karlsson.

I look at the one-shy-of-70 names that we've added, and...

1) there have been no Players I'd De-Listed who have been nominated, yet. [We came close with Brett Hull.]

2) 58 of my top-60 are safely aboard. Of the two that remain, I hope that one gets Voted In this ballot. The other one- well... I don't think he'll be nominated for a while. [And he's a relatively recent mainstream NHLer.]

I will be really stunned if Charlie Gardiner isn't among the new nominees, though.

You may be stunned.

Gardiner is an old-timer, short career, losing record. Bad karma there for many voters this time around.

If we don't vote in Babe Seibert in the next two rounds, the final table would make no sense whatsoever. The only argument for Clapper is having played all his career for a still active franchise. Had Clapper played in Montreal (Maroons), no one would've cared about this guy who just never, ever was the best player on his line.

Very polarizing vote, that's for sure. Malone and Mahovlich were pretty much supported across the board, but everyone else had a significant number of detractors.

... Also, to the three persons who ranked Benedict last : I don't get it. There are probably valid reasons to do so, but I can't quite figure out how he's worse than Broda AND Durnan (it's just that, the reason that would apply to one would not apply to the other). I also really, but really can't figure out vs. Dit Clapper, but I thought I'd just keep it to goalies (it's 11:30 AM, after all).

Disclaimer : I had Benedict first and I suppose I could've ranked Firsov ahead of him, if things went a certain way.
