Top 100 Forwards in the NHL

Just like many of you, by this time in the middle of the summer I start itching for anything hockey. I was bored and had some spare time so I decided to put together my list of the top 100 forwards in the league.

My Criteria:

This list is based on the top 100 forwards at this very moment. It has nothing to do with potential and nothing to do with contracts, it is simply based on who I believe are the best forwards in the NHL at the moment, entering the 2019/2020 season. While the 2018/2019 season is very influential in these rankings, I try to look at the prior 3 seasons (when applicable) rather than simply looking at last year. For this reason, some players who had monster years ( Brayden Point) may not be as high as some would like. I also don't like completely writing players off after one subpar year (J. Benn/Kopitar).

I will acknowledge that I am a huge Wings fan, so it is only natural that some Wings bias appears in my rankings, however I really did try to be as unbiased as possible, and tried hard not to overvalue any of the Red Wings on the list. I am also aware that many people will have completely different opinions, and I welcome the feedback. Rather than just telling me "my list sucks" tell me who I forgot, tell me who I have rated too high or too low. If you really do think it sucks, and you want to call my list bad, at least put forth an argument as to why it is bad.

No Gallagher?

If I'm completely honest, he was #101, and I knew people would have issues with this. I based it off the last 3 years, so wha hurt him a bit was his 16/17 season.

Looking over it, Gallagher should probably be there over Tatar, but I love Tatar so thats my Red Wings bias creeping in.

I’m not sure how Matthews cracks the top 10 if you ignore potential. He’s a PPG type player right now. That’s not top 10 imo. If you take into account potential then I can see it.
For example, how is he ahead of Drai and Tavares who are the two guys right after him on the list. To me it looks like you’re taking into account potential.

It's alright, the list could be worse. Tatar is still a solid player, now Drouin on the other hand...

Then how did Dylan Strome make it?

Still a pretty good list.

Kane below MacKinnon is a joke. He's also better than Ovechkin.

MacKinnon continues to be the most overrated player in the league AINEC

I agree I’d put him better than 13, but of the players above him only maybe 1 or 2 don’t have a decent argument for being put above depending on what you value

No Gallagher?

Gallagher is the Habs best player and he's not in there, Jonathan Drouin of all people is ahead of him  This is incredible

Yeah that is a huge snub. Gallagher is one of the best shot generating machine in the league. I love how ferocious of a player he is.

Gallagher played fine in the 2017 season. He was just very unlucky so his productuon suffered. He had a 5.56 oish% (extremely low) but all of his analytics suggested he played well. So I wouldn't fuzz too much about his production in 2017.

Just in terms of the Vancouver players I can’t put Boeser over Horvat. Whether that means Brock is too high, or Bo too low?

Boeser > Horvat. Love the determination and heart that Horvat plays with over Boeser’s casualness, but burying the puck is what truly matters and Boeser is simply a more talented player.

Personally I think if you put Gaudreau in the position of Marchand then he’s talked about as a no doubt top 5 player.

Stamkos and Draisatl in particular are no where close to Gaudreau.

He turns 55-60 point players into PPG guys

So why would oveckin be top 10 basically same player but Matthews is a center.

Not saying your wrong about Matthews but I feel Ovie is overrated a lot.
