It's that time of year again where we can speculate who will lead our team in points for the 2019-2020 season. I will do a poll for the next 10 days or so to determine who Leafs HF thinks will be our scoring leaders. This is also assuming Mitch Marner resigns and there are no significant roster changes.

Rielly takes the #5 spot based on your votes. Last year Morgan had 20 goals, 52 assists for 72 points in 82 games. My guess is he scores 70-75 points over 82 games this season.

1. Auston Matthew (58.2% 124 votes)
2. Mitch Marner (63.5% 73 votes)
3. John Tavares (86.0% 49 votes)
4. William Nylander (73.2% 101 votes)
5. Morgan Rielly (59.2% 42 votes)
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

My choice for #6 is Tyson Barrie. Really excited to see more of him this year in the blue and white. I'm expecting 60-65 points.

Let's continue discussions here.

Most people including myself did have Marleau at 50-55 points but Marleau was 39(?) at the time. Johnsson is 24 and hasn't even hit his prime yet. Why trade a decent player when he is under contract going into his prime years? Do you not like his contract or something?

And most thought Marleau would get 50-55 last year too...
I don't think that's a fair statement, a 39yo who had been trending down and hadn't cracked 50 in 3 years was not a good bet, especially with how exhausted he looked down the stretch the year before. Johnsson was better last year than Marleau was at any point as Leaf by a wide margin, he costs half as much and you have him at a time in his career that he should get better instead of fall off a cliff

I went Barrie. But depending which line he plays on I think Johnsson could have a big year considering he is by far our best LW

I project Barrie as PP2 which IMO does not translate to the teams 6th leading scorer

There were more than a few of us worried about Johnsson after the first 20 games last year as he was arguably the worst forward on the Leafs up to that point. I dont think he was better than Marleau when hes sitting behind Lindholm in points/60.

He was having trouble even staying in the lineup at the time but he really turned it around and if he can maintain his pace the last 3/4 of the season, his contract could certainly be a steal. He finished 4th in points/60 over that stretch only behind Tavaras, Marner and Matthews.

Probably my vote for the next round.

those early games were mostly with Lindholm/Brown in defensive usage though too, but I think that highlights even more how optimistic we should be on Johnsson - even with that he still managed to have low end 1st line production last season as a whole (on either a per-60 or per-game basis, the bar for that is probably lower than people realize at around 50pts). And on top of that he was a terrific ES possession player both by aggregate and relative measures.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting point-per-game upside or anything, but I think he'll be a 55-65pt regular who's a good 2 way player

I think Hyman is a wild card this year. He may or may not be healed to start the season. And with the exodus of 3 forwards from the powerplay, he might get a chance to replace one of them (at this point he would be an improvement over the likes of a Kadri, Marleau or Ennis on the PP, IMO), getting the chance to increase his number from last year.
