It's that time of year again where we can speculate who will lead our team in points for the 2019-2020 season. I will do a poll for the next 10 days or so to determine who Leafs HF thinks will be our scoring leaders. This is also assuming Mitch Marner resigns and there are no significant roster changes.

Here are the results from last year:

1: Auston Matthews (47.2% 51 votes)
2: John Tavares (50% 46 votes)
3: Mitch Marner (87.8% 108 votes)
4: William Nylander (89.6% 60 votes)
5: Nazem Kadri (58.9% 56 votes)
6: Morgan Reilly (60% 51 votes)
7: Patrick Marleau (TIE 40.9% 27 votes)
8: Jake Gardiner ( TIE 40.9% 27 votes lost tiebreaker)
9: Zach Hyman (46.8% 22 votes)
10: Andreas Johnsson (65.4% 17 votes)

Actual top 10 scoring for 2018-2019 was as follows:

1.Mitch Marner 94 points
2.John Tavares 88 points
3.Auston Matthews 73 points
4.Morgan Reilly 72 points
5.Kasperi Kapanen 44 points
6.Nazem Kadri 44 points
7.Andreas Johnson 43 points
8.Zach Hyman 41 points
9.Patrick Marleau 37 points
10.Jake Gardiner 30 points

I went with JT because I'm not 100% sure if Marner will be a leaf and Matthews has a decent chance of getting another injury if history is any predictor.

Let's assume Mitch Marner resigns just for arguements sake. I voted Matthew's because of the potential if he plays a full season. I voted him last year as well and I was wrong. Honestly I think its between him and Marner.

I too voted Matthews last year and if he is healthy the entire year he should lead the team, especially if Nylander is playing with him.

If I was a betting man and Marner signed I would probably go Marner though.

I would agree with this if Matthew's misses some time
Let's not talk about injuries. It's ok. They happen. Being durable is also a skill. He will have to prove it. I'm all for him to take #1 but we'll have to see it.

Auston, as great as he is at a litany of things, is still learning a lot about how to get better and stay ahead of the opposition. He always says how his main goal is to be the best player in the league. We just have to be patient. It's coming.

I'd say endurance is the biggest roadblock in his way. We saw how Auston usually starts the season and when returning. If he can become consistent I am confident he can be the best player in the league. (Minus McDavid of course)

Marner. My predictions from last here weren't all that bad:

Picked Nylander and Kadri wayyy too high. Picked Kapanen too low (didn't make the list).

Overall, probably didn't do too bad!

1) Marner (28G 93P)
2) Tavares (39G 90P)
3) Matthews (44G 88P)
4) Nylander (24G, 64P)
5) Kadri (29G, 60P)
6) Rielly (8G, 53P)
7) Hyman (20G, 50P)
8) Gardiner (10G, 46P)
9) Johnsson (18G, 45P)
10) Marleau (22G, 44P)

As long as Tavares / Marner playing on the same line, Matthews is not going to be the top scorer
