In business, if you're a crappy employee, you get fired. If you were a great interview, but sucked in application, you're gone.

Heh, not in my experience. Every job I ever worked at, the talented employees that got all the work done were *always* passed over at promotion time for the useless suck who's only skill was interviewing. They don't get let go, they get promoted into management.
