Just flip him to Dallas before season starts. Ask for their 2019 1st and one of their 2 4th in 2019.
Trade ends up being Pacioretty for Suzuki, Dallas 2019 1st, Columbus 2019 2nd and a 2019 4th.
Not Bad at all!

When he came into Detroit a few years back as one of their new highly touted guys you knew the dynasty was officially over lmao.

But if he can look involved and put together a strong start there should be a few calls coming in for him.

Well at least we got back a guy who has a real sneaky shot. Don't have too many goalscorers in the team.

If he doesn't bounce back next season, then I would keep him. There is no rush to trade him, he still has 3 years left.
Just trade him once he is doing good and his value is at the highest.

Would be funny though if he does better than Patch next season
I always liked watching Tatar play. Never really watched him all that closely though so pretty sure he's got some issues but he also does a lot of things better than Patch. He can't be worse than what Patch was last season.

Tatar had a full ntc and waived it to come to Montreal

If he waived it to come to Montreal, he shouldn't have any issues waiving it in favor of a contending team.

In any case, his full NTC expires in February of 2020, it's not so bad.

The contract has a bad cap hit but its only 3 years. At trade deadline, he might get between 20 - 30 goals and the Habs flip him for picks and other prospects again to a contender by keeping 20-30% of his salary.

The Habs need to get reclamation projects and stock up on picks and prospects.

Short term, 5.3m cap hit is nowhere near a bad cap hit. It's just around going rate. Pacioretty will get around 8m/year for 30 goals, 60 points(1/3 improvements over Tatar's average of 20/40ish).

Like Armia, this is a chance to showcase him and bump up his value. I don’t see him as part of a core that will contend in the long term, more as someone that we can eventually package for something bigger.

2018-19 should be all about asset collecting for the Habs.
