He has to learn from this one. He did not learn from his prior 3 suspensions for similar incidents. If he doesn't the number is only going to get bigger.
What a joke. DoPS strikes again.
DOPS this afternoon
Could have been more, but missing the banner raising probably accounts to about 5 more.
I think we are all bliss with the result except Wilson and the Capitals.
What is wrong with you? Take away a mans livelihood because of his hockey opinions?
Surprisingly a great job by the NHL on this one!
His next one will probably get him suspended for half the season.
how many games did he get?
Lmao. Maybe he shouldn't have gotten himself suspended 4 times in a calender year if he didn't want 20 games. Next time it'll be 40.
Maybe that will give him incentive enough to learn to play physically without just trying to rip a guy's head off.
The NHL wasn't suspending him for 20 games based on how bad the hit was, but because who was doing the hitting. For anyone else, I doubt that would have been 5 games. But when it's been 16 games since your last suspension, and this will be your 4th suspension in 105 games, you need to send a message.
This is fantastic, its probably just because he's a repeat offender but all suspensions need to be harsher in general.
Can’t wait for a good ol hockey game filled with dump, chase and neutral zone traps. Maybe we’ll even see players touch shoulders
Thank god. Looks like the NHL is finally learning. Hopefully, the message finally gets to this idiot, but I doubt it.
Great. Next time he does this ban him for the entire goddamn season. There's no need for or room for these kinds of blatantly dangerous plays in hockey. Not making that hit would literally have made zero impact to the play. Play the freaking sport, leave the martial arts to the UFC.
Personally I think this is FINALLY a great day for the NHL in terms of player safety. I thought 15-20 would be the perfect example. They actually did it. I'm extremely proud of the NHL.
Growing up in the 90s/early 2000s I would have tried to make this hit a million times as I was a dman. I'd even tell my partner we would run switches if they were weaving into the zone so I could blindside them and my d-partner would swoop behind and take the puck. We would have called it "hockey" but it sickens me to even admit that. These guys have parents, siblings, loved ones, etc. They have a life after hockey and taking this out of the game is the best thing for the players. Remember.. it's the NHLPA. They represent and work with one another even though they are on different teams. I'm very proud that hockey finally made the right call. I'll gladly take a sacrifice of high hits out of the game for the betterment of an individual's life. I'll get over the high flying hits being out of the game. They can still throw awesome checks.
Now... stay consistent with this. Let's make the game safer.
I know! Should have been 22 games.
If this doesnt wake him up...the next one will be 40 games i bet..many more...
Those of you quoting me in the other thread acting like I don't get it.
I do understand why he was given a lengthy suspension. I just think 10-15 games would have accomplished the same thing, but in the end it doesn't matter and he needs to learn from this or he'll be sitting whole seasons out before too long.
More than I expected, but 100% fair.
Man. The delusion is absolutely off the charts. Wilson is only suspended because he's too strong and not because of his hit. If Zuccarello throws the hit, it's ok (lul wut?) but Wilson will be forced to play at 50% to avoid suspensions. Tom Wilson has to bend down 3-4 inches whenever he makes a hit so he doesn't kill someone.
You can't be suspended 4 times in a 105 game span and not expect the hammer eventually.
20 games is nothing compared to what he'll get next time.
Great use of cap space, Washington. Do Caps fans still think he puts up 40+ this season?
finally this dumb player got what he deserved
This is fantastic news and great work from DoPS.
Right on the mark with this suspension
