It cites the Hawks and Kings and 2 teams that are rich in home grown talent, which has led to continued success and points out how the Oilers failed there.

But it’s the ability of a franchise to get the most out of the rest of its picks by turning them into contributing NHLers that separates winners from losers. Drive for show, putt for dough, as they say.
From scouting, to coaching, to proper management, there are a lot of components that go into making a well-oiled franchise and it’s not an easy combination to come by.
It’s why we have Kings and Blackhawks…and Oilers and Panthers.

Thanks for posting this Dee.

The bolded is something that everyone should remember when being critical of DeanL or even PhillipA. These guys came in and built an elite development system where none had ever really existed before (we had minor league teams but no system whatsoever for as long as I can remember).

We all expect success now where before we were just happy showing some progress.


Great article and they are right, we do have a great and well oiled franchise from top to bottom.

Yes this is why I wanted them up. I'm so happy to have these guys on the roster. They are just a great extra line of Goal scoring which we lacked against the Hawks. If DL makes rooms for these guys we will be making a great case for the cup again. But the huge question is WILL he make room for these kids or will he fall back on the incapable veterans once they come back.

You keep stoll.

You trade Fraser and Clifford. Two players that can easily be replaced.

Have a good amount of forwards to cover a round of injuries. Carcillo Nolan Stoll Lewis. That's a risk you have to take, would rather put the best possible line up, instead of having an anemic line up in play in fear of injuries.

And if you do trade Stoll you can get a solid prospect and add him to the Monarchs, more depth. That probably isn't something DL would worry about.

I agree with all of that...IF the kids can show they can keep this up for a couple of months. I give Toffoli a shorter time requirement since he's already posted some good numbers this year and last.

with the amount of offense these kids are producing in the limited time they have seen with the big club, im wondering if/how Sutter would justify sending them down. Dean & Co are going to have some heavy decisions to make in the coming weeks

I think a fair point would also be to remember that we Deslauriers Andy Andy Dabourin and Shore all down on the farm and capable of providing us with varying degrees of replacement time. I mean Des is ready enough to play 3/4th line LW for a handful of games and so is Andy Andy.

Our depth can help us out there too.

From what I have witnessed in the last two games it appears that Vey is the least ready to be in the NHL full time. It looks as though the game is still a split-second ahead of him; only playing time can change this. He is obviously incredibly skilled and will be a very good player in this league, but he is, IMHO, not quite there yet.

+1 for this post. The expendables are Clifford, and especially Fraser. How any fan would want to keep Fraser on this team at this point is beyond comprehensible. Clifford has some value for teams lacking toughness, but has a history of concussions and his skill set is limited. Fraser may be good in the locker room and be well liked, but players with his limited skills and the changing face of the league don't really have value anymore.
