Preds seem mostly concerned about clearing salary and are still alleged open to retaining 2-3 mil.

RHD like this arent on the trade market often. But only at the right price.

look at that roster, look at what they have coming up on the back-end, PK is a luxury that can be turned into a high end forward at less money and prolly a pick or a prospect

Could see something like...

TOR
Subban ($2 mil retained) (cap would be $7 mil AAV x3 years)
Granlund (50% retained) (cap would be $2.875 x1 year)

NAS

Kadri
Zaitsev
Brown
Bracco

Nashville benefits in clearing the space for Josi, filling hole created by Subban leaving, Kadri much more cost effective option than Duchene to fill C hole, a useful player in Brown and player with upside and skill in Bracco.

Toronto benefits in clearing the cap hits of Zaitsev and Brown, filling the glaring hole on the top pair RH side of our D in Subban, and replace the hole createed by trading Kadri with a cheaper 3C option in Granlund whose cap would come off the books at the end of the season.

Toronto would have $12 mil in cap out the door in Kadri, Zaitsev, Brown and Bracco assuming they were all on the roster, and $9.875 coming in with Subban and Granlund, but in the process filled their biggest need and got rid of Zaitsev's deal.

Surprisingly enough, there are players and situations for both teams that could make sense. In particular, if saving cap space is important to Poile; taking on Kadri at 4.25 and having him replace Turris, which is a definite upgrade in my books, free's up cap space and allows the Preads to trade Kyle for assets. Upgrade their center ice position, free up cap space; Leafs get a right handed shot top pairing D.

What about 6 million?

NOPE, guys like Subban, Gardiner, Shattenkirk do really well in sheltered roles where they can do what they do best. On Toronto there is no where to shelter PK. He would instantly be our 2nd best defender.... that is how bad our depth is at D. Guys like PK can't help themselves, it's in their DNA to drive offence at all costs, to take any risk if there is a slight chance it would drive offence no matter if it means you give up a scoring opportunity to the other team. PK is absolutely an upgrade over Jake but at the same time he's also a defender who won't help us defend.

Trolling, no. But he's definitely just fishing based on the previous tweets suggesting Nylander be part of the package.

Poile (sp?) is probably the best GM in the game, if there is a trade involving Nashville and Toronto, Toronto will get abused and taken advantage of.

But if we don't re-sign Gardiner, who else is going to fill that role? I'm still not convinced Dermott will be ready this year, especially given that he'll be out for training camp and the start of the year.

Pair him with Muzzin, let him do his thing, and you've got a pretty solid all-round pairing. Rielly gets paired with Hainsey or Dermott (once he's back) and the bottom 5-6 get figured out.

There is no perfect defence core, but this would definitely be a better blend than we have right now.
