Read the thread title and thought he had something terminal.

That being said part of the reason the Sharks wont need a rebuild is guys like Timo stepping up.

Cool to see Meier getting some recognition. Living up to his draft position finally. He's the prototypical modern power forward. Absolutely sucks to play against him as he will outwork and out will players in all zones. Compares favorably to Owen Nolan and similar potential IMHO.

Meier was one of the reasons why the Sharks didn't fall off like many people expected going into 17/18. Taking another step this year, IMO they'd have no chance to contend without him. He's basically arguably their best winger at this point.
Arguably their best forward right now.

I bet the Senators wish they had asked for him to be part of the Karlsson trade. Ouch for the Senators.

Is Meier more important to the Sharks than Hertl at this point? Both started the year on fire offensively but Hertl's pace has slowed a bit although he's been the more refined possession/two-way player while Meier is the bull-in-the-china shop goal scorer.

Tough to say. Until Hertls injury he was the slightly better performing player IMO, he hasn’t reached that level of dominant play yet again.

A qualified "yes" for me.

They are both dominant possession players, but I'd give the edge to Hertl. He is one of the league's best at puck protection and cycling in the offensive zone. It's close to impossible to get the puck from him one-on-one.

When Hertl is in perfect health his scoring touch magically returns. Alas, he's often out of the lineup, and when he returns it's fairly obvious he's playing hurt. That's the Tomas Hertl you're seeing now.

On December 14, 2017, Timo Meier officially started to seriously breakout. Now, 365 days later, let’s look at his last calendar year, and compare him to the rest of the NHL over that time frame.

83 games played

36 goals (13th)
62 points (67th)
30 even strength goals (4th)
54 even strength points (24th)
33 minor penalties drawn (8th)

He leads the Sharks in plus minus, as well as all of these categories except for points. (Pavelski is tied with him with 36 goals) At even strength, he is an elite offensive force on a team that really struggles to score at ES.

Where does he rank, in your opinion? Will he play in the All-Star Game in San Jose this year?
Hey thanks for sharing this, wasnt aware he had broken out like this. Where would you rank him in a 2015 redraft? 12-15 range? Maybe even higher those numbers, hows his overall game?

The fact that Meier does almost ALL his damage even strength makes that answer yes. And they do have him on the PK now, his entire game has taken off.
