On December 14, 2017, Timo Meier officially started to seriously breakout. Now, 365 days later, let’s look at his last calendar year, and compare him to the rest of the NHL over that time frame.

83 games played

36 goals (13th)
62 points (67th)
30 even strength goals (4th)
54 even strength points (24th)
33 minor penalties drawn (8th)

He leads the Sharks in plus minus, as well as all of these categories except for points. (Pavelski is tied with him with 36 goals) At even strength, he is an elite offensive force on a team that really struggles to score at ES.

Where does he rank, in your opinion? Will he play in the All-Star Game in San Jose this year?

Those are impressive stats. A little light in SJs post Patty-Jumbo future.

How are is other underlying numbers? How is he defensively?
he's pretty dominant but hertl will do that to almost anyone on his line

His underlying numbers have always been very strong, but they were actually stronger as a rookie when he was scoring like a 4th liner.

With Timo Meier, Logan Couture's 5V5 GF% is 50%. Without him, it's like 36%.

OP states Timo Meier is getting plenty of hype in the "best players getting no hype" thread just yesterday.

Starts a new post hyping Timo Meier. :thumbd:

When he was in CHL, it was all because of Ehlers, now it is thanks to Couture or Hertl.
When will he have the deserved recognition? I wonder.

He is simply having a fantastic season. He is basically good.
And if he can maintain the present pace, you have here an absolute ELITE player.

15 ES goals 1/3 into the season!
Only Ovechkin (18) and Skinner have scored more this year...

What a beast he is, especially love his drive to the net. He scored goals standing in front of the net, while 2 defenders are trying to move him.

If anybody is carrying anybody, Meier is carrying Couture.

No one is saying that.
He said Couture's underlying stats have been doubled when he's playing with Meier.

I think it's pretty clear that Meier has a good chemistry with Hertl/Couts but he hasn't stopped to score even when PDB tried to mess his lines again...

I always hoped he'd turn out well after seeing the Meier-Ehlers chemistry in Halifax
Good to see!

He's a very good player. His development was a little slower than I foresaw, but it seems like he's finally able to realize his potential. Just goes to show that you have to be patient with some of these forwards.

He's a goal scorer for sure. Awesome to see him breaking out the way he is. And it's only his second full season (knock knock) in the NHL, so it's not like he's a late bloomer or anything like that.

What a draft year that was.

I thought he was a terrible pick at 9oa when I was watching the draft, but its nice to see he has redeemed himself somewhat
