You really think Hanifin in his prime is a solid #3? Yeah no one else did either!

Michael Ferland = solid middle six forward

Dougie Hamilton - Flawed, but useful #2D a la Brent Seabrook
Adam Fox - Elite #2 D, might be a #1 but no one will give him that credit due to size a la Ryan Ellis
Noah Hanifin - Complete #2D, maybe even #1 a la Mattias Ekholm
Elias Lindholm - Solid Top six forward good for 45-55 pts a season a la Jacob Silfverberg
Micheal Ferland - 75+ point late blooming All-Star Power Forward a la Chris Kunitz

In 3 years, my prediction is: Hamilton >= Hanifin > Lindholm > Fox (signing with Carolina) > Ferland (is good, just not as good as the others).

I almost equalled Hamiton and Hanifin, but I give the edge to Hamilton. He'll most likely get to play with Slavin. I don't think Hanifin got himself a good break there in Carolina. Don't think he was ever going to surpass Slavin as the top pairing defender. I think he'll manage to bump Giordano down to the second pairing after this season honestly.

Hanifin hasn't really shown any sign that he will be in Dougie's tier. Now, he may have a very sharp progression curve and prove me wrong, but I don't see it.
Hamilton is my pick.

Hamilton: Unlike most Flames fans, I've always thought he is and tops out as an offensively skilled #2/#3.

Ferland: Good winger. Can clearly hang with skilled players but is inconsistent. I have him as a late bloomer middle 6 talent. Think he's pretty close to his potential.

Fox: Putting up amazing numbers in college. Treliving was hesitant to give him up in many trade offers for a reason. He's an A level prospect and used to be a top 5 guy in our pipeline. Who knows what he becomes, though?

Hanifin: Seems like a more sheltered Hamilton (who was already quite sheltered). He clearly has lots of potential and has missed only a handful of games since being drafted. He seems like a downgrade on Hamilton but he's also kinda where Hamilton was at when we traded for him. I don't think he ever surpasses him, though.

Lindholm: Don't know a lot about him. Don't really like a lot of what I've read about him from Canes fans. Seems to me like he leaves a lot to be desired in his game. I think he could find his game under the right mentorship from a guy like Backlund, and become his successor as our 2nd line center.

I think when all is said and done, Hamilton stays the best player

Three years from now? Still Hamilton. Think it's entirely possible Fox ends up being the best player involved in this trade. Could be he never plays more than 15 NHL games.

Hamilton - Basically what he is right now, a solid top pair guy who leaves you wanting more.

Hanifin - Something similar to Hamilton, a top pair option who leaves you wanting more. I think he’s going to struggle to match Hamilton in points but could be a more useful all round player.

Lindholm - Quintessential 2nd line player with enough versatility to move up and down the lineup.

Fox - AHL star who can’t quite translate his game to this level.

Ferland - Three-time defending Hart winner, preseason favorite for the Conn Smythe, perennial league leader in fights.

Easily Hamilton.

What's this nonsense about hanifin developing into a #1 D. He hasn't shown he has that ability.

All of that is just blind hope.

75+ Point Ferland lmao
He said ferland is gonna be a marchand level player and proved it by showing that they put up similar number at age 26... and only age 26. I guess he downgraded him. Not to mention kunitz nevet hit 70pts and he played with crosby....

I was with you until the end. I'd bet good money that Ferland never cracks 50, let alone 75 points.

In 3 years, Adam Fox will be best. I'm not sure where he signs, though.

Except for having equal production in their first 3 seasons, right?

But Hamilton is the best d-man between the two and will be 3 years from now and also the best player in this deal. The Flames will miss the 17 goals he got from the backend as well as Ferland's 21 goals.

Ferland scored 17 of those before the all star break. Lindholm is infinitely better offensively than Ferland and if put on a line with Gaudreau and Monahan he will outproduce Ferland by a large margain, guaranteed.

Hamilton is the best player in this deal at the moment, but we went from having an elite top pairing to two above average pairings while upgrading our secondary scoring qhich was the biggest problem the Flames had last season. Hanifin could very easily become the best player in this deal in a few years.

Fox was not even what I considered our 3rd best defensive prospect in Calgary.
