When GM Ryan Archer stepped up to the podium many were not sure what to expect, at the end of the season he stated "I am going to make every effort to get this team into the playoffs" and he seemed to be delivering on him promise as skilled player after skilled player was added to the roster, including Simon Gagne, Daymon Langkow, Alex Tangauy, Paul Kariya and Miro Satan. He also blew the minds of many GMs when he pulled the trigger on a deal that moved the Thrashers 2nd overall pick (Tyler Seguin) for a package of players that included Marc-Andre Fleury. However, things weren't working out the way the GM had planned, Paul Kariya was deemed ineligible to play for the season due to a technicality that GM Archer unsuccessfully disputed. Then Miro Satan decided to jump ship for Europe, essentially losing the Thrashers a 4th and a 6th round pick for nothing. Although the Thrashers had an excellent preseason with Stamkos looking in top form the Thrashers felt they were missing that extra umph that would get them over the hump and into the playoffs. Earlier today the Thrashers GM confirmed that he had successfully landed one of the most proficient scorers in the league to play alongside Stamkos. Here is what he had to say:

"I'd like to announce today that the Thrashers have landed Sniper Marian Gaborik and we are extremely excited to have him on the wing with Stamkos. We feel that when these two are on the ice they will give us a chance to win every night. Other teams will soon find this out. Going to the Islanders in the deal were Jakub Voracek, Kieth Aulie and the Columbus Blue Jackets first round pick. We were very sad to see Voracek go as he was for a long time part of our core plan, but in these type of deals you have to give a little to get a little. In this case it was a very difficult decision but it was worth the risk."

Gaborik has already reported to Atlanta and it is rumoured that contract talks have already begun to keep him in Atlanta for a long time. Fan sites all over Atlanta have already coined the new threating duo as Stamborik and the air is electric with excitement. Only time will tell if this deal returns the Thrashers to greatness and brings home another prized championship.
