Thomas Scallen, who's known primarily around BC as the first owner of the NHL Canucks, died on Saturday in his hometown of Minneapolis, aged 89. Aside from the Canucks he was involved in a variety of entertainment ventures, but it was because he put up the $6 million the NHL demanded from expansion teams in 1970 that the Canucks exist today.
