By Ryan Kennedy in the June, 2011 issue of THN.

He's got the following as the top 5:

    1. Edmonton - Adam Larsson
    2. Colorado - Gabriel Landeskog
    3. Florida - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
    4. New Jersey - Sean Couturier
    5. NYI - Jonathan Huberdeau

    Thoughts? Agree? Disagree?

Personally, while I think this top 5 fits each team's need pretty damn well...I'm just not sure if I see RNH "dropping" to 3rd overall..

Oilers has done everything to signal that RNH is their guy, short of getting matching RNH tattoos.

I hope this is true (not so much that RNH falls to 3rd but that the Oilers select Larsson over him).

That would be NJ's worst nightmare if that happened. I just don't see how Huberdeau doesn't go in the Top 3. And while Larsson to Edmonton does make sense, I still think they will take RNH.

After reading the thread title I half expected to read that they expect New Jersey to forfeit this year's pick from the Kovalchuk ruling.

I don't neccesairly agree with it but if Edmonton goes with Larsson the top 3 will likely happen like this. Nugent-Hopkins isn't far enough ahead of the others (IE he's not a clear BPA) to warrant Colorado taking him over something they need.

People saying that this has "no chance" are overstating things tremendously.

It may be unlikely (if Edmonton goes with RNH, obviously), but Colorado picking Landeskog over RNH is not unlikely at all [despite my preferences to the contrary]. If team needs are considered, this is plausible.

RNH is the BPA...teams draft BPA.

Colorado runs to the stage to select RNH if there at 2.

That's a pretty good top5, but I think Oilers gonna take RNH. Hoping I'm wrong.

He's Edmontons guy, but no he's not a clear BPA. If another team was picking first RNH isn't neccesarily the guy we're talking about being "virtual lock" for first. If Colorado is picking maybe it's Landeskog or Larsson, same with Ottawa.

Everyone scouts who has mentioned something to the media has said there is no clear number one, that no player whose in contention for number one is that much farther ahead than the other ones. Teams will go for need when players are so close together like they are now. I don't see how that's changed in the month or so (Which RNH didn't blow anyone away by anymeans in the playoffs) or in the combine.

I think Larsson is the best fit for Edmonton... I know many of them want a top Centre for Hall, but there D is awful IMO. However Edmonton's brass seem to be all over RNH.. so I don't see this guys mock coming true

I truly believe Dougie Hamilton will turn out to be the best defenseman from this draft.. and maybe the best player too. RNH is talented and everything but he's pretty soft. I just like Dougie's overall game and ability to be a catalyst at both ends of the rink.

Albeit, I haven't seen Larsson play too much but what I did see and reports I've read have been underwhelming.

On another side of the arguement theres the beleif that Dougie may never become more than a #2 or #3 defensemen in the NH.

Landeskog is great, but I don't see him going ahead of Larsson or RNH.

  22. If the Oilers are desperate for someone able to step it up next year I can see them passing on RNH

Proof that THN doesn't pay close attention.

And for the last time: We have better D prospects than C prospects. Look it up.

    They aren't.

Forwards still look much brighter than defense. They're lucky next year has so many top quality defensemen. If they can get a top 10 and another top 20 pick for someone like Hemsky they're set.
