Maybe he would have made less. So? If the Owners weren't hell bent on expansion, he likely would never even have made a penny of NHL money. Why complain about stuff like this? Enjoy the gravy when it's there, and move on to the ... er... brussel sprouts when it's gone.

He's not complaining.
Where do you see him complaining.
He's EXPLAINING.

Some players perception of standered of living is really out of whack, IMO,

Most families would be very happy and live comfortably with a combined income of 90k a year.

I really have no sympathy for these guys. They should realize and be aware that there's a good chance their careers may not last very long. Most people who know that are smart enough to:

1. Save money and invest
2. Have another career to fall back on when times are tough

It's called life management and thinking ahead.

Well people go become hockey players knowing it's not a life long career. That's where hockey players become responsible and make sure they have something to do after hockey.

And how do they get to the NHL if they spend time working on other skills?

You still haven't explained how they are supposed to buy a house if they can't get a mortgage.

If anyone knows of any NHLers having trouble attaining mortgages, please let me know, I have am self employed but still have bought two rental houses in the past year. If the player has a decent beacon score (hasn't screwed his credit) and a current contract, I am sure my mortgage specialist will concur that no one is going to ask where his payments will come from in 5 years time. It's just not how lending institutions work. I will charge a referral fee to the NHLers who can't find their own mortgages, but they can pay me in installments if they wish.

I don't see anything wrong with what he said. He acknowledges that he made more money after the last CBA than he would have without it. What is offensive about that.

What is offensive is when Modano starts talking about putting food on the table. There we can speak about being detatched from reality.

It's called renting for a couple of years while you save the money you and your significant other make to afford a down payment.
