The Sedins Aren't Done

Not really one to make threads about Canucks on the main board, but man after a tough October the Sedins have been extremely productive, especially on the power play. Since November 18th Henrik Sedin has 15 assists in 14 games, which is the most in entire NHL in that span.

Obviously they aren't the same players they once were, but it's awesome to see them still have some gas left in the tank.

They are still good players with high IQ despite losing a step the past few seasons.

I think part of the offensive decline over the past few years has been due to the loss of Salo/Ehrhoff and never replacing them. PP is running much better now that they have Boeser set up to be the trigger man but the team is still hurt at even strength because they don't have a threat to score on D.

Sorry dude. They are.

This is the Farewell Tour for them this year. They belt out some tunes and you think back to your carefree youth...but then the kid next to you whips out their cellphone and you realize you're not a kid anymore and the dream shatters.

You're a great poster PC, don't get me wrong your rants are up there with the best on this forum but I disagree.

They clearly still have gas left in the tank, there were people calling for them to retire mid season a coupe months ago, that's how poorly they played. Ever since Boeser has been moved to the first unit power play things have completely changed, they look rejuvenated and are producing quality results. I'd welcome them back next year at a discounted rate in a heart beat.

Over the past month they're producing at a first line rate, clearly they aren't that. But as 3rd liners at even strength and power play specialists they can be extremely effective players, especially to a team that's rebuilding and having young offensive players push for roster spots. The Sedins allow these prospects to play with two fanatastic offensive players, who are regarded as two of the best "mentors" in hockey.

It's just not there every night, but they're still capable of showing flashes what they once were. And being the vets on the team, they can always rise to the occasion when the team needs it the most, like tonight i thought they were fantastic.

They'll probably settle between 40-50 points like last year. The word "done" is used pretty loosely here.. if you're not close to what you once were some people consider you done which i don't understand. They are still NHL players, which is always impressive for players of their age.

That said could be the last season before they're actually "done". They had their strong bounce back year in 14-15 and since then it's been just about emptying the tank. They will hit the wall sooner rather than later.

The Sedins are still obviously NHL players and they still probably could be for a while.

But they're in such a unique situation and they're still probably going to retire at the end of this year unless we dump guys like Granlund/Vanek/Baertschi to make room for them.

Money says they're retiring at the end of this year still though for sure.

If the Sedins want to come back next season, Markus Granlund and Tomas Vanek will not stop that from happening.

I'd take the Sedins for a few more years over Vanek and Louis Ericsson.
It is obvious they are willing to do whatever is best for the team and accepted lesser roles until they were needed to step up again...which they have. They are still very valuable players that
will be excellent mentors and team mates for a season or two more.

I'd be fine with having them on 1 milion/2 year deals for just being PP specialists and 3rd/4th line guys that can handle more minutes if need be. Mentorship is obviously an invaluable asset to have for our other young players, if we end up getting Dahlin in this draft our three young Swedes (Petersson, Dahlen, Dahlin) could benefit immensely from playing alongside the Sedins (and of course helping them transition from playing hockey in Sweden to making Vancouver their home).

They never complain. Taken a far lesser role for the good of the team. Huge respect to them.

Really the main difference is that they are generating points on the PP. Credit Boeser for that. He's a natural shooter for the PP and a RHS so he can play the opposite side boards than Henrik. They have lacked a shooter for years.

They have kept their mouths shut and didn't complain, which I credit them for that. Green, with a healthy lineup would adjust their ice time depending on whether the opposition had a 1st line that required a checking line matchup. If they did, then he would play Sutter's line a lot and take time away from the twins.

Top ice time games for the twins prior to Sutter's injury were against the likes of NJ, Det, etc.

Still believe that this should be their final year. Don't see how the roster works if they are brought back unless they can move out 2 of Sutter, Eriksson, Gagner.

Horvat, Boeser, Bartschi
Gaudette, Pettersson, Goldobin
Eriksson, Virtanen, Gagner
Sutter, Gaunce, Granlund
Need 1 spare guy

Add the twins in and who do you take out? Plus, who is left to kill penalties, so can't just be Gaunce.

They just turned 37 this fall, and are tracking for 50 point seasons despite slow starts. As complimentary players, what else could you ask for? Injuries are going have put them into a more prominent role this year, as we lack depth, but they are proving to be up to task.

I would love them to sign a 1 year deal after this year to play on the third line. These guys are still legit players.

This is not a management group that plays young players ahead of.vets.

So, need to see them move gagner or someone out to make room to allow young guys like pettersson, gaudette, and goldobin to earn full time positions with the team.

They're still good players when used properly. The last two coaches rode them like rented mules and they burnt out after Christmas. The minutes they were getting included PP and even PK and we're amongst the highest for forwards. This year their minutes have been cut and they look much fresher. Having Boeser on the PP to bury their great passes has also helped.
