Brian Burke's salary is about $3M and I guess he's one of the best paid GMs:

The Toronto Star is reporting that Brian Burke will be the next president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team is believed to have offered Burke a six-year deal with an annual salary of approximately $3 million.
...
Burke's deal will include the rest of this season, then a five-year contract that kicks in next season. He made about $1.4 million managing the Ducks, and is expected to see his salary doubled in Toronto.

One former GM in the last 5 years made about 600K in base and about ~150K in other compensation (bonus but not directly tied to performance) along with additional perks such as a team car, expense account, season tickets to everything in the arena.

Overall, not a bad gig:D

How much teams pay GMS and Coaches is one of the most closely kept secret for some teams

A few teams offer coaches around 100k$ a year and Gm can make up to 4mill a year

when Gretz was the coach in Phoenix and it came out how much he got per year--every coach and GM chocked on their breakfast--
