The lack of parity along with the extreme disparity between rich & poor has led me to stop watching MLB altogether!

I would hate for that to happen in the NHL!

Being a Winnipeg Jets fan, I don't think we get an NHL team back without the Salary Cap.

Ah, yes. I see a certain Leafs fan has now realized that re-signing everybody on this team might be problematic long term. I also see some references to "socialism" and "capitalism." Classic.

So what's wrong with that???? I'm not going to apologize for that and I damn well shouldn't have to!!!
It's kind of a thinly veiled "**** you" to fans of any other team in the League. (EDIT: That and insisting folks are being unreasonable when you're openly advocating restructuring the league to benefit you and yours at the expense of everyone else is kind of gauche.) When you do that, you stand a good chance of getting piled on.

That maybe true and would be a shame. The Jets deserve to be in the NHL they sellout their rink.

The Leafs are being rewarded though. They're making crazy more amounts of money under the cap system. Forbes estimates of operating income:

- 2005 Lockout and Salary Cap implemented
- 2013 48 Game shortened season

That chart alone should appear in post #2 of every thread complaining about the cap. If you want to know why TML love the cap and won’t say a word against it, there you go.

I agree
If I were in charge I'd abolish the Salary Cap, and every team would have equal odds in the draft lottery. It's pathetic how professional sports has adopted the "Everybody gets a ribbon" mentality.

You know, because Toronto had so much success with their out of control spending in the late 90s/early 2000s

Since the salary cap was instituted we haven't seen a shift in power for small market teams to large market teams. What we see is cap manipulation with small market teams using the artificial cap hits to get to the cap floor so they can receive subsidies and large market teams dismantled because the hard cap but still winning cups like Chicago, Boston, LA and Pittsburg even Washington. The bottom feeders are still the bottom feeders. The perceived parity is due to the 3 point system not the cap system. I wish the NHL would go to a luxury tax system like MLB or NBA. The cap system in hockey is a socialist system and thumbs it's nose at capitalism. For life of me I don't understand how you setup a business structure that rewards failure and punishes successful franchises. I don't get it.
The Maple Leafs would not have any of Matthews, Tavares or Marner without the salary cap.

Shocking, the Rangers fan also wants to abolish the cap along with the Toronto fan. You know, because the Rangers had so much success with their out of control spending in the late 90s/early 2000s

Yeah I saw Chicago at the bottom because the cap decimated their team.
This makes no sense. The Hawks kept winning championships even after shedding salary to meet the cap. They were a very well managed team. Your leafs would do vey well to follow their lead.

Anyhoo. Look up. Look way up. Your theory that the cap isn’t helping small market teams is blown to smithereens when you look up at the top of the standings.

Drops mic...

i think we've concluded that statistical analysis of operating revenue will not sway op whom roots for the richest ice hockey club in the world.

Why should it???? My team is one of the richest therefore I want them to abe ble to spend as much as they want on players. You're telling me if the shoe was on the foot you wouldn't want the same?

Doesn't that kinda prove the point that having no salary cap wouldn't actually create super teams and destroy any level of parody though?

Yes, I wouldn’t. I would want my team to win the competition with as even ground to battle it out as possible.

Winning the cup just because you have more money means nothing other than you have more money.

It would be an empty victory
